Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Finite element study of displacement controlled fretting in cylinder contact with different axis crossing angles

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2022
There is inevitably an angular offset during contact of mechanical structures such as roller bearings or gears. Most of the previous contact models involve the contact between two parallel cylinders.

Rapid Machine Tool Verification [PDF]

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2014
AbstractThis paper describes work carried out to develop methods of verifying that machine tools are capable of machining parts to within specification, immediately before carrying out critical material removal operations, and with negligible impact on process times.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The inhibition mechanism of ultrasonic vibration on stick-slip phenomenon of sliding friction pair

open access: yesScientific Reports
Frictional vibration often occurs during sliding, commonly referred to as the stick-slip phenomenon. It is more likely to occur in the range of the Stribeck curve, where friction and velocity have negative gradient characteristics.

Compensation for spindle’s axial thermal growth based on temperature variation on vertical machine tools

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2016
A new spindle’s axial thermal growth model based on temperature variation is proposed considering the limitations of spindle’s axial thermal growth model based on rotating speed.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
