Thermal Error Modelling of a CNC Machine Tool Feed Drive System using FEA Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Recirculating ball screw systems are commonly used in machine tools and are one of the major heat sources which cause considerable thermal drift in CNC machine tools.

A question of trust: can we build an evidence base to gain trust in systematic review automation technologies? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background Although many aspects of systematic reviews use computational tools, systematic reviewers have been reluctant to adopt machine learning tools.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Controlled Turning Process for the Production of Friction-Reduced Cylinder Liners with a Defined Free-Form Geometry

open access: yesJournal of Machine Engineering, 2021
Friction in the piston-cylinder system of combustion engines has a great influence on fuel consumption. To reduce the friction of combustion engines, free-form cylinder liners and microstructured cylinder liners have proven to be advantageous.

Machine Learning Playground [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Machine learning is a science that “learns” about the data by finding unique patterns and relations in the data. There are a lot of libraries or tools available for processing machine learning datasets.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

POS Tagging and its Applications for Mathematics

open access: yes, 2014
Content analysis of scientific publications is a nontrivial task, but a useful and important one for scientific information services. In the Gutenberg era it was a domain of human experts; in the digital age many machine-based methods, e.g., graph ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Nanocomposites for Machining Tools [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2017
Machining tools are used in many areas of production. To a considerable extent, the performance characteristics of the tools determine the quality and cost of obtained products. The main materials used for producing machining tools are steel, cemented carbides, ceramics and superhard materials. A promising way to improve the performance characteristics
