Characterization of Tool Clamping Conditions in Forging Hammers

open access: yesJournal of Machine Engineering, 2022
The present work addresses the topic of die clamping at the forging hammer in the context of the definition of a current requirement profile as well as the evaluation of individual influencing variables on the clamping process.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Tilted Tool Axis Machining on 5-Axis Machine Tools

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automation Technology, 2007
High-efficiency machining and high-quality cutting are required in mold and die machining. To produce high-quality molds and dies, we require high rigidity for cutting tools and machining with effective cutting edges. We propose tilted tool axis machining, which involves indexing using 2-axis rotary motion and machining using 3-axis feed motion on ...

In-Process Monitoring of Inhomogeneous Material Characteristics Based on Machine Learning for Future Application in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesJournal of Machine Engineering
Additively manufactured components often show insufficient component quality due to the formation of different defects. Defects such as porosity result in material inhomogeneity and structural integrity issues. The integration of in-process monitoring in

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Model updating of machine tools

open access: yes, 2022
8 S.The dynamic behaviour of a machine tool influences its accuracy, productivity, reliability and sound emission. For these reasons, efforts are being made to simulate the dynamic behaviour for further optimization steps.

Cyber-physical Machine Tool – The Era of Machine Tool 4.0

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2017
In the past five years, several industrial initiatives such as “Industry 4.0”, “Industrial Internet of Things”, “Factories of the Future” and “Made in China 2025”, have been announced by different governments and industrial leaders. These initiatives lead to an urgent need to advance current manufacturing systems into a high level of intelligence and ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Development of a sustainability assessment index for machine tools

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2019
Machining is a wealth generating activity which converts raw materials into finished products by consuming energy and other natural resources. It is also responsible for high environmental emissions.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
