La traduction automatique : un outil pour les traducteurs ?

open access: yesJoSTrans: The Journal of Specialised Translation, 2013
In recent years, machine translation has resurfaced in new forms: research projects, consumer software and websites providing instant and free online translations. How can a professional translator use these newly developed tools?

Neural System Combination for Machine Translation

open access: yes, 2017
Neural machine translation (NMT) becomes a new approach to machine translation and generates much more fluent results compared to statistical machine translation (SMT). However, SMT is usually better than NMT in translation adequacy.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

The ethics of machine translation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper I first describe the two main branches in machine translation research. I then go to discuss why the second of these, statistical machine translation, can cause some malaise among translation scholars.

Exploring Machine Translation on the Web [PDF]

open access: yesTradumàtica tecnologies de la traducció, 2010
This article briefly explores machine translation on the web, its history and current research. It briefly examines as well four free on-line machine translation engines in terms of language combinations offered, text length accepted and document formats supported as well as the quality of their raw MT output.
