Awal mula proses domestikasi pada hewan diperkirakan sudah terjadi pada zaman Mesolitikum (10.000 SM). Berdasarkan bukti sejarah, hewan pertama yang didomestikasi didaerah Asia Timur adalah anjing. Tentu saja hal ini diperkuat setelah ditemukan kerangka-kerangka anjing yang berusia 7000 dan 8000 SM.
