Sex differences in dynamic cerebral autoregulation responses to resistance and endurance training in humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exercise maintains brain health and reduces the risk of cerebrovascular diseases, such as stroke and dementia. The benefits of different ‘modalities’ of exercise on male and female cerebral autoregulation are unclear. In this study, we compared adaptations in dynamic cerebral autoregulation (dCA) during spontaneous and forced oscillations in ...

Mechanisms of haemoglobin mass expansion following heat stress

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Theorised mechanisms of heat stress‐induced erythropoiesis which may facilitate the expansion of haemoglobin mass. A, acute: heat stress‐induced renal ischaemia. Redistribution of blood flow away from the kidneys to facilitate thermoregulation during heat stress could reduce renal oxygen delivery, subsequently lowering renal PO2${

Advances in large DNA fragment assembly for microbial cell factory engineering

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 14, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract The efficient, rapid, and reliable assembly of DNA fragments is essential for advancing metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. With the rapid advancement of DNA synthesis and assembly technologies, the scale of DNA assembly has expanded from single genes to metabolic pathways and even genomes.

Cyclic Thiosulfinates: Synthesis and Applications in Chemical Biology and Materials Science

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
Cyclic thiosulfinates (CTs) are strained organosulfur heterocyclic compounds with a polarized ─S(═O)─S─ bond that enables selective thiol reactivity. Advances in synthesis afford tunable scaffolds that support efficient proximal thiol cross‐linking and enable applications in chemical biology and materials science. Cyclic thiosulfinates (CTs) constitute

Mechanically Interlocked Indigo Photoswitches

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 34, 17 August 2026.
By incorporating indigo photoswitches into the axle of a rotaxane, which features a hydrogen bonding macrocycle, we demonstrate improvement in activation wavelength, photostationary states and thermal reversion, an effect that is governed by topologically constrained supramolecular interactions.
