Alkylammonium Cation Complexation into the Narrow Cavity of Dihomooxacalix[4]arene Macrocycle
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012How big should a calixarene macrocycle be for endo-cavity complexation to occur or to allow through-the-annulus threading? To answer these questions, a complete study on the complexation of primary and secondary (di)alkylammonium cations by 18-membered p-tert-butyldihomooxacalix[4]arene macroring has been performed in the presence of the "superweak ...

Giant Cavity Macrocycle: Synthesis, Structure, and Its Complexation with Pagoda[5]arene
Organic Letters, 2023A novel stretched hexagon structure naphthalene diimides-extended-pillar[6]arene 1 with a giant cavity size of 18.769 Å in width and 17.109 Å in height is reported. 1 exhibits highly selective binding of pagoda[5]arene compared to pillar[5]arene and prism[5]arene.

Size Complementarity of Macrocyclic Cavities and Stoppers in Amide-Rotaxanes
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1999New [2]rotaxanes were prepared by the threading and the slipping procedure, the latter having the advantage of not needing templating interactions. As a consequence, the first [2]rotaxane consisting of a tetraamide macrocycle and a pure hydrocarbon thread was synthesized (see 12a in Scheme 2).

Study on Molecular Cavity of Oligoamide Macrocycles by Using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy
ChemPhysChem, 2012The molecular structures and assembly structures of aromatic oligoamide macrocycles are identified by using scanning tunneling microscopy at liquid/solid interface, which shows persistent shapes, tunable cavity sizes, and binding of water molecules.

Synthesis and characterization of the novel shape-persistent nanosized cavity macrocycle
Synthetic Metals, 2011Abstract The Friedel–Crafts reaction was employed to prepare the shape-persistent macrocycle (TPAP)3 with direct cyclization from three monomers of 2-(4′-(Phenyl(4″-methylphenyl)amino) phenyl)-propan-2-ol (TPAP), which contains two reactive groups of the t-hydroxyl and the p-proton on the triphenylamine. Under a very low monomer concentration (ca. 1%)

Synthesis and conformation of macrocyclic porphyrin dimers with potentially spacious cavities
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1988The importance of π–π donor–acceptor interactions is demonstrated in the synthesis and conformation of macrocyclic porphyrin dimers covalently linked by biphenyl or pyromellitimide bridges.

Closing the cavity: reactive and light switchable dienone-ether macrocycles
CrystEngComm, 2010Dienone-ether macrocycles may be reversibly switched from the thermodynamically stable E,E,E,E-isomers, with an open central cavity, to globular, cavity-closed E,E,Z,Z-isomers by the action of sunlight. They are restored to their open forms by gentle heating, but more intense heating may result in an intramolecular reaction, closing the cavity in a ...

Chiral macrocycles with the hydrogen bond donor/acceptor sites in the cavity were synthesized and covalently bonded to silica gel to give chiral stationary phases (CSPs), which showed excellent abilities to resolve various chiral compounds including ketones, esters, carboxylic acids, sulfoxides, amines, amino acid derivatives, and metal complexes.
