Phaeohyphomycosis caused by Trematosphaeria grisea in an immunocompromised English springer spaniel

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 12, Issue 4, December 2024.
Abstract A 10‐year‐old, male, farm‐based springer spaniel that presented with subacute progressive left‐sided central vestibular signs was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis of unknown origin. The patient received prednisolone (2 mg/kg/day orally), ciclosporin (5 mg/kg orally twice a day) and a single infusion of cytarabine (200 mg/m2). Six weeks later,

Photokatalytische CO2 Reduktion mit CO2‐bindenden Enzymen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 16, April 15, 2024.

Novel Compound MMV1804559 from the Global Health Priority Box Exhibits In Vitro and In Vivo Activity against Madurella mycetomatis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Objectives: Eumycetoma is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) characterized by subcutaneous lesions and the formation of grains. Attempts to treat eumycetoma involve a combination of antifungal treatment and surgery, although the outcome is frequently ...

In Vitro Susceptibility of Madurella mycetomatis to Posaconazole and Terbinafine [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2011
ABSTRACT Presently, therapy of eumycetoma in Sudan is still based on surgery combined with prolonged ketoconazole therapy. This usually results in a poor clinical outcome. To determine if posaconazole and terbinafine could offer better therapeutic alternatives, the in vitro susceptibilities of 34

Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction Using CO2‐Binding Enzymes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 63, Issue 16, April 15, 2024.
A novel promiscuous activity of the phenolic acid decarboxylase from Bacillus subtilis and other CO2‐binding enzymes is described. The enzymes catalyze the photocatalytic CO2 reduction in the presence of a Ru(bpy)3 photosensitizer, exhibiting high selectivity for CO2 reduction over proton reduction (up to 93 %).

A Retrospective Review of Neglected Tropical Diseases Diagnosed on Histopathological Specimens in the Free State Province, South Africa, 2015–2020

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Background. Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a heterogeneous group of medical conditions that commonly occur in underprivileged populations. NTDs are primarily diagnosed in tropical areas. Although South Africa is not situated in a tropical region, the high poverty rate makes the country susceptible to some NTDs. Limited data are available on the

Environmental detection of eumycetoma pathogens using multiplex real-time PCR for soil DNA in Sennar State, Sudan

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Health, 2023
Background Mycetoma is a chronic disease affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue endemic in the tropical and subtropical regions. Several bacteria and fungi can cause mycetoma, but fungal mycetoma (eumycetoma) is challenging because the treatment ...

Proteomic analysis of the processes leading to Madurella mycetomatis grain formation in Galleria mellonella larvae

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2020
Mycetoma is a neglected chronic and granulomatous infection primarily associated with the fungal pathogen Madurella mycetomatis. Characteristic of this infection is the formation of grains. However, the processes leading to grain formation are not known.
