Smart Adhesives via Magnetic Actuation
Advanced Materials, 2022AbstractSmart adhesives possess a wide range of applications owing to their reversibly and repeatedly switchable adhesion in transfer technology. Despite recent advances, it still remains a technical and scientific challenge to achieve strategies for rapidly tunable adhesion in a noncontact manner. In this study, a smart adhesive to achieve dynamically

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2000
The paper presents a non-conventional actuator with magnetic fluid, generating low forces and very small displacements, controlled by an electric current. A comparative study of the two versions is performed by means of the transfer characteristics. The device might be used in the fine control of some small mechanisms (e.g., the blades of the pneumatic

[1991] Proceedings. IEEE Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, 2002
The characteristics of three types of magnetic microactuators made by silicon-based microfabrication are described. The microfabrication, actuator configuration, and dynamic characteristics of a fabricated microactuator with a planar coil are examined. This microactuator is shown to operate in the nanometer range.

Magnetically-actuated microposts stimulate axon growth
Biophysical Journal, 2022New strategies to promote neuronal regeneration should aim to increase the speed of axonal elongation. Biochemical signaling is a key factor in axon growth, but recent discoveries have shown that mechanical force, through a process referred to as stretch growth, can significantly influence the elongation rate.

Magnetically actuated micromechanical tweezers
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2011Abstract Two planar actuators with magnetic thin films are used for magnetic tweezers. The planar actuators consisting of a pair of a 75 × 0.8 × 0.3 μm 3 silicon oxide beam and a 72 × 13 × 0.3 μm 3 silicon oxide plate deposited with a 65 × 4 × 0.1 μm 3 Ni magnetic thin film are successfully fabricated and successfully gripped to a single NPC-tw01 ...

We present the first electromagnetic comb drive actuator which allows for large, linear actuator motion at large air gap widths of 25 mum and a structural height of 400 mum. Previously reported designs require very narrow air gaps of 3 mum at structural heights of up to 1 mm [1] which makes them sensitive to operate, and challenging to fabricate.
