Eddy Current and Magnetic Testing of Magnetic Material by Uniform Eddy Current Probe

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
Uniform eddy current probe comprised of an exciting tangential coil and a detecting pancake coil simultaneously conducts eddy current testing and magnetic testing of magnetic material. The eddy current testing detects parallel flaws to the magnetic flux and the magnetic testing detects perpendicular flaws.

Analysis and Experimental Testing of a Permanent Magnet Eddy-Current Brake

2005 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2005
Conventional friction braking suffers severe limitations. The concept of integrated contactless magnetic brake was invented to remedy to these problems. The integrated brake combines a conventional friction brake with an eddy-current brake. The present work includes an analysis of the physics of the eddy-current brake by the means of a two-dimensional ...

Optimal Magnet Design for Lorentz Force Eddy-Current Testing

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2015
We propose a procedure to determine optimal magnet systems in the framework of the nondestructive evaluation technique Lorentz force eddy-current testing (LET). The underlying optimization problem is clearly defined considering the problem specificity of nondestructive testing scenarios.

Through Thickness Inspection of Layered Magnetic Material Using Pulsed Eddy-Current Testing

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2023
Steel microstructure determines the mechanical properties of steel such as hardness and tensile strength. To monitor steel microstructure evolution during thermal processing such as hot rolling, online measurement of microstructure is vital to steel quality control.

Feasibility of an Eddy Current Flaw Test that Detects Disturbed Magnetic Flux.

Journal of the Magnetics Society of Japan, 1995
A method of eddy current flaw test that detects disturbed magnetic flux was proposed, to improve the crack direction dependency of the detectability of bobbin-coil-type probes. These are conventionally used for eddy-current nondestructive examination of steam generator tubes in pressurized- water-type nuclear plants.

Pulsed Eddy Current Testing Based on Gradient Magnetic Field Measurement

2012 Sixth International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Problems and Applications, 2012
Gradient Magnetic Field Measurement (GMFM) has been intensively used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In this paper, we introduce GMFM to Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PECT) in an effort to enhance the PECT sensitivity to subsurface anomalies in stratified conductors.

GMR Magnetic Sensor Arrays for NDE Eddy-Current Testing

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
Magnetic sensors based on Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) and Spin‐Dependent Tunneling (SDT) effects have high, frequency‐independent sensitivity. The small size and low power consumption of these sensors allow them to be used in multiple‐sensor arrays facilitating rapid scanning of an area in a single pass rather than raster scanning.

2D magnetic field mobile sensing system for eddy current testing

2009 IEEE Sensors, 2009
In this paper, a mobile probe for eddy current testing using inductive sensors and two optical computer mice for position determination is presented. It is a first step in developing an autonomous system that is able to detect flaws in the metallic structure of an aircraft.

Residual magnetism effects on the eddy current nondestructive test signal

NDT International, 1987
Nondestructive test techniques based on the principle of eddy currents are being widely used in manufacturing industries to assure internal and surface qualities of materials and components. A problem often encountered in the nondestructive testing of ferrous products is the residual magnetism introduced by some manufacturing processes prior to the ...

Comparison testing of an adjustable-speed permanent-magnet eddy-current coupling

Conference Record of 2000 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.00CH37111), 2002
The paper describes the physical construction, basic principles of operation, and a series of comparison tests conducted on an adjustable speed coupling system (ASCS) and a low voltage variable-frequency drive (VFD). These systems have been tested at three different ratings (50 hp, 100 hp, and 200 hp) driving load profiles representing both fans and ...
