In this paper a new field of application of the overlapping finite element method is proposed for eddy current testing. This method, which has already been used to deal with the lift-off, is extended to the treatment of thin conducting and/or magnetic layers.

The High-Resolution Magnetic Camera: A Novel Sensor for Eddy Current Testing
2014Eddy current techniques are often used to detect and, in some advanced applications, to characterize fatigue surface-breaking cracks appearing in mechanical parts. One of the major difficulties in this approach is to reliably separate the crack contribution to the signal from the others (liftoff, edge effects, material property variations).

Parameter Estimation for Magnetic Inverse Problems Arising in Eddy Current Testing
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1997Abstract Motivated by nondestructive testing for steam generators of nuclear plants, problems on the shape identification are discussed arising in the characterization of structural defects in materials. Those defects can be detected as a probe impedance trajectory by scanning a pancake type coil.

Fast Analytical Modeling of Eddy Current Non-Destructive Testing of Magnetic Material
Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 2013This article presents the modeling of non-destructive testing systems containing magnetic materials using a fast numerical method. Its main aim consists of correcting the half analytical expression of the impedance variation, formulated by some authors, caused by the presence of a conducting plate below of an absolute ferrite core probe.

Analytical solution for magnetic field of cylindrical defect in eddy current nondestructive testing
Physica Scripta, 2019Abstract In metal components, a defect frequently causes the failure of the components and results in serious accidents consequently. Eddy current nondestructive testing method is one of the most effective testing approaches to quantitatively monitor the defects both in non-ferrite metal and in ferrite metal ...

The effect of magnetic anomaly detection technique in eddy current non-destructive testing
International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2007In this paper, we demonstrate a first approach of a non destructive testing method that is being oriented in detecting mainly near subsurface defects in ferromagnetic materials. This new technique is related to the parametric control and combination of the classic magnetic anomaly detection and the eddy current techniques that can be potentially used ...

Electromagnetic Testing of Magnetic Material by Rotating Uniform Eddy Current Probe
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006A rotating uniform eddy current probe composed of two exciting tangential coils and a detecting pancake coil can simultaneously conduct eddy current testing and magnetic testing of magnetic material. The eddy current testing detects parallel flaws to the probe scan direction and the magnetic testing detects perpendicular flaws.

Eddy current test of steel tube employing electromagnet technique for dc magnetization
Journal of Applied Physics, 1986The impedance of a test coil was measured as a function of the dc current of an electromagnet, and the determination method of magnetization level with the normalized impedance diagram is discussed. An eddy current test for the outer side of a steel tube wall was also performed.

A moving magnetic flux type sensor with shading coils for eddy current testing
Le Journal de Physique IV, 1998This paper presents a moving magnetic flux type sensor with shading coils for eddy current testing. The eddy current testing is useful for detecting cracks and defects on the surface of the conductive materials. However, it is much difficult to detect them on the reverse side surface otherwise the cracks and defects occur on this surface.

Coupling method of magnetic memory and eddy current nondestructive testing for retired crankshafts
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2016To verify the validity of the Coupling method of magnetic memory and eddy current (CMMEC) testing for crankshafts, we use this technique to test a 12-cylinder V-design diesel crankshaft. First, the stress distribution in the crankshaft was obtained under 12 working conditions using a Finite element (FE) model that complied with the commercial FE code ...
