Effects of plasma turbulence on the nonlinear evolution of magnetic island in tokamak. [PDF]

open access: yesNat Commun, 2021
Magnetic islands (MIs), resulting from a magnetic field reconnection, are ubiquitous structures in magnetized plasmas. In tokamak plasmas, recent researches suggested that the interaction between an MI and ambient turbulence can be important for the ...

Reformation of the Electron Internal Transport Barrier with the Appearance of a Magnetic Island. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2020
When realising future fusion reactors, their stationary burning must be maintained and the heat flux to the divertor must be reduced. This essentially requires a stationary internal transport barrier (ITB) plasma with a fast control system.

Turbulence-driven vortex-flow around a magnetic island

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
We predict a new state of plasma self-organization, in the presence of magnetic islands, namely turbulence-driven island vortex-flows, which are non-axisymmetric flows.

Drift kinetic theory of the NTM magnetic islands in a finite beta general geometry tokamak plasma [PDF]

open access: hybridNuclear Fusion, 2022
In (Imada et al 2019 Nucl. Fusion 59 046016 and references therein) a new 4D drift kinetic nonlinear theory, valid in the limit of a low beta, small inverse aspect ratio, circular cross section, toroidal geometry, to describe the plasma response to the ...

Suppressing magnetic island growth by resonant magnetic perturbation [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2018
The effect of externally applied resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) on the growth of magnetic islands is investigated based on two-fluid equations. It is found that if the local bi-normal electron fluid velocity at the resonant surface is sufficiently large, static RMPs of the same helicity and of moderate amplitude can suppress the growth of ...

Particle acceleration by combined diffusive shock acceleration and downstream multiple magnetic island acceleration [PDF]

open access: diamond, 2015
As a consequence of the evolutionary conditions [28; 29], shock waves can generate high levels of downstream vortical turbulence. Simulations [32-34] and observations [30; 31] support the idea that downstream magnetic islands (also called plasmoids or ...

Dynamics of ion temperature gradient turbulence and transport with a static magnetic island [PDF]

open access: green, 2015
Understanding the interaction mechanisms between large-scale magnetohydrodynamic instabilities and small-scale drift-wave microturbulence is essential for predicting and optimizing the performance of magnetic confinement based fusion energy experiments ...

Excited ion-scale turbulence by a magnetic island in fusion plasmas. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep
The characteristics of ion-scale turbulence in the presence of a magnetic island are numerically investigated using a gyrokinetic model in fusion plasma.

Two-fluid magnetic island dynamics in slab geometry. I. Isolated islands [PDF]

open access: greenPhysics of Plasmas, 2005
A set of reduced, two-dimensional, two-fluid, drift-MHD (magnetohydrodynamical) equations is derived. Using these equations, a complete and fully self-consistent solution is obtained for an isolated magnetic island propagating through a slab plasma with uniform but different ion and electron fluid velocities.
