Intelligent Micro/Nanorobots for Targeted Interventional Therapy: From Bench to Clinic

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Zirui Zhang et al. reviewed the application and challenges of mobile nanomachines in interventional therapy. By converting exogenous energy, including chemical, magnetic, optical, and ultrasonic sources, into mechanical forces, micro/nanorobots (MNRs) enable precise actuation at unprecedented scales. Evolving far beyond traditional drug delivery, these

Autonomous Navigation of Pollen‐Inspired Magnetic Microrobots for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A sunflower pollen‐inspired magnetic microrobot enables controlled rolling navigation in vessel‐like environments. Its open geometry reduces hydrodynamic drag, while vision‐based closed‐loop control, shortest‐path planning, and reinforcement learning support target‐reaching and maze navigation with microrobot‐scale accuracy, highlighting a route toward

Human‐Scale Rotating Magnetic Field Delivery With Permanent Magnets Under Anatomic and Robotic Constraints

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Rotating magnetic fields (RMFs) are widely used for microrobot propulsion and control. We show that RMF generation with permanent magnets is mechanically feasible for many limb and intracranial applications but becomes constrained for thoracic targets.

Improved kinematic models for two-link helical micro/nano-swimmers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Accurate prediction of the three-dimensional trajectories of micro/nano-swimmers is a key element as to achieve high precision motion control in therapeutic applications. Rigid-body kinematics of such robotic systems is dominated by viscous forces.

Magnetic Microrobotics for Biomedical Applications

open access: yes, 2021

Performance Estimation and Ex Vivo Validation of Untethered Magnetic Robots in Soft Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an empirical model that quantitatively predicts the step‐out frequency of screw‐type untethered magnetic robots (UMRs) in soft viscoelastic environments, including ex vivo brain tissue. By integrating key parameters into a dimensionless framework, the model enables estimation of robot performance across a range of biological ...

Controllability and control synthesis of underactuated magnetic microrobots

open access: yes, 2023
International audienceThe control of multiple magnetic microrobots is of particular interest for therapeutic applications. Yet the controllability of such a system is not straightforward since, on most of such systems designs, there is only a single ...
