Magnetic Reynolds number dependence of reconnection rate and flow structure of the self-similar evolution model of fast magnetic reconnection

open access: yes, 2005
This paper investigates Magnetic Reynolds number dependence of the ``self-similar evolution model'' (Nitta et al. 2001) of fast magnetic reconnection.

Programmable crack dynamics engineering enables flexible strain sensors with high linearity

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
First‐decoupling theoretical framework of crack evolution elucidating the control methods, mechanistic insights, and structure‐activity relationships is established. Crack propagation from uncontrollable randomness systematically evolves into spatially ordered states.

Magnetohydrodynamics simulation of magnetic reconnection process based on the laser-driven Helmholtz capacitor-coil targets

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Magnetic reconnection is an important rapid energy release mechanism in astrophysics. Magnetic energy can be effectively converted into plasma kinetic energy, thermal energy, and radiation energy.

Recent advances in multifunctional soft robots: A materials–structures–systems co‐design perspective for synergistic integration

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Abstract Soft robots, engineered from highly compliant materials, offer superior adaptability and safety in unstructured environments compared to their rigid counterparts. Recent advancements, fueled by bio‐inspiration and material programmability, have led to the rapid co‐evolution of their core modules: actuation, sensing, protection, energy, and ...

Intra‐Procedural Three‐Dimensional Rotational Angiography in Cryoballoon Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation: An RCT

open access: yesPacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The impact of various imaging techniques on the safety and outcomes of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation remains unclear. Intra‐procedural three‐dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) is the least used imaging method despite some benefits.

Reconnection of magnetic flux ropes driven by two-color Laguerre–Gaussian laser pulses in plasma

open access: yesMatter and Radiation at Extremes
The generation and reconnection of magnetic flux ropes in a plasma irradiated by two Laguerre–Gaussian laser pulses with different frequencies and opposite topological charges are investigated numerically by particle-in-cell simulations. It is shown that

Direct observation of high-speed plasma outflows produced by magnetic reconnection in solar impulsive events

open access: yes, 2018
Spectroscopic observations of a solar limb flare recorded by SUMER on SOHO reveal, for the first time, hot fast magnetic reconnection outflows in the corona.

On the nature of reconnection at a solar coronal null point above a separatrix dome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Three-dimensional magnetic null points are ubiquitous in the solar corona, and in any generic mixed-polarity magnetic field. We consider magnetic reconnection at an isolated coronal null point, whose fan field lines form a dome structure.

Explosive Turbulent Magnetic Reconnection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
We report simulation results for turbulent magnetic reconnection obtained using a newly developed Reynolds-averaged magnetohydrodynamics model. We find that the initial Harris current sheet develops in three ways, depending on the strength of turbulence: laminar reconnection, turbulent reconnection, and turbulent diffusion.
