A self-locked magneto-optic trap

open access: yesOptics Communications, 2002
We present a novel technique to lock the frequency of the trapping laser of a magneto-optic trap (MOT) using a signal generated from the ultracold atoms in the MOT itself. This technique utilizes the large number of very cold, slowmoving atoms in the MOT to generate a signal free of Doppler-broadening.

Laser cooling with a single laser beam and a planar diffractor

open access: yes, 2010
A planar triplet of diffraction gratings is used to transform a single laser beam into a four-beam tetrahedral magneto-optical trap. This `flat' pyramid diffractor geometry is ideal for future microfabrication.

Precision measurement of the nuclear polarization in laser-cooled, optically pumped 37K

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
We report a measurement of the nuclear polarization of laser-cooled, optically pumped ^37 K atoms which will allow us to precisely measure angular correlation parameters in the ${\beta }^{+}$ -decay of the same atoms.

Magneto-optical trapping of Zinc

open access: yes
We report on laser cooling and magneto-optical trapping of atomic zinc. The atoms are cooled using the 213.9\,nm $^1$S$_0$ $\rightarrow$ $^1$P$_1$ transition, making this the shortest wavelength employed for magneto-optical trapping thus far. We demonstrate trapping of all stable isotopes of zinc, including the fermionic isotope $^{67}$Zn, which ...

Three-Dimensional Magneto-Optical Trapping of Barium Monofluoride

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters
As a heavy molecule, barium monofluoride (BaF) presents itself as a promising candidate for measuring permanent electric dipole moment. The precision of such measurements can be significantly enhanced by utilizing a cold molecular sample. Here we report the realization of three-dimensional magneto-optical trapping (MOT) of BaF molecules.

A Large Magneto‐Optical Trap of Cadmium Atoms Loaded From a Cryogenic Buffer Gas Beam

open access: yesNatural Sciences
We demonstrate rapid loading of a magneto‐optical trap (MOT) of cadmium atoms from a pulsed cryogenic helium buffer gas beam, overcoming strong photoionization losses.

Single Sr Atoms in Optical Tweezer Arrays for Quantum Simulation

open access: yesAtoms
We report on the realization of a platform for trapping and manipulating individual 88Sr atoms in optical tweezers. A first cooling stage based on a blue shielded magneto-optical trap (MOT) operating on the |1S0⟩→|1P1⟩ transition at 461 nm enables us to ...
