A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Seismogeodynamic activation of oil and gas areas of Pre-carpathian foredeep (Dolyna, Nadvirna, Boryslav)

open access: yesМінеральні ресурси України, 2018
The modern seismic activation of the main oil and gas areas of the Pre-Carpathian foredeep – Dolyna (1974–1976), Nadvirna (1996–2013) and Boryslav (2014–2017) was traced. The refinement of the location of the studied earthquakes courses is carried out on

On the asymptotic magnitude of subsets of Euclidean space

open access: yes, 2012
Magnitude is a canonical invariant of finite metric spaces which has its origins in category theory; it is analogous to cardinality of finite sets. Here, by approximating certain compact subsets of Euclidean space with finite subsets, the magnitudes of ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Dedicated comparatives aid comparisons of magnitude: a study with Pitjantjatjara-English bilinguals

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience
When expressing comparisons of magnitude, Pitjantjatjara, a language indigenous to the land now known as Australia, employs contextually driven comparators (e.g., Anyupa is tall.

Magnitude and crystalline anisotropy of hole magnetization in (Ga,Mn)As [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Theory of hole magnetization Mc in zinc-blende diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors is developed relaxing the spherical approximation of earlier approaches. The theory is employed to determine Mc for (Ga,Mn)As over a wide range of hole concentrations and

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

Magnitude, diversity, capacities, and dimensions of metric spaces

open access: yes, 2014
Magnitude is a numerical invariant of metric spaces introduced by Leinster, motivated by considerations from category theory. This paper extends the original definition for finite spaces to compact spaces, in an equivalent but more natural and direct ...

Global metallicity of globular cluster stars from colour-magnitude diagrams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We have developed an homogeneous evolutionary scenario for H- and He-burning low-mass stars by computing updated stellar models for a wide metallicity and age range (0.0002$\le Z \le$0.004 and 9$\le t(Gyr) \le$15, respectively) suitable to study globular
