Evaluation of the carbon monoxide levels in staff of a general hospital

open access: yesRevista de Epidemiologia e Controle de Infecção, 2016
Backgrounds and Objective: Exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) can be harmful to human health and the first effects of intoxication may go unnoticed. Our objective was to evaluate the functional capacity and respiratory muscle strength of staff of a general

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Handmade Trileaflet Valve Design and Validation for Pulmonary Valved Conduit Reconstruction Using Taguchi Method and Cascade Correlation Machine Learning Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Pulmonary valve diseases in children and adults include different degrees of stenosis, regurgitation, or congenital defects. Valve repair or replacement surgery is used to treat valvular dysfunction and to improve regurgitations flow for pulmonary valve ...

Is Steam a Modern Heating Medium or a Victorian Hangover? [PDF]

open access: yes
In the UK many hospitals use steam as a heating medium. It is an accepted fact that steam can carry considerable amounts of heat energy, but is heating by steam really a cost effective and energy efficient method for hospital engineering services?

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
