Absence of Anemia in Maintenance Hemodialysis

International Journal of Artificial Organs, 1981
Anemia is usual in untreated uremia. Persistent anemia is thought to be universal in uremic patients treated by maintenance hemodialysis (MH). A retrospective chart analysis of 549 patients on (MH) at five facilities in Brooklyn, found that eleven (2%) of these patients had a hematocrit (Hct) in the normal range (40%).

Maintenance and Salvage of Hemodialysis Access

Surgical Clinics of North America, 2023
Many end-stage kidney failure patients require hemodialysis as a life-sustaining treatment. Hemodialysis access via arteriovenous fistula or graft creation is preferred over long-term dialysis catheters, but intervention to maintain patency and prevent access failure is common.

Hemoperfusion in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients

Blood Purification, 2022
The accumulation of protein-bound uremic toxins and medium-large molecule toxins in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients is one of the causes of long-term dialysis-related complications. Hemoperfusion can remove these uremic toxins and reduce the complications of MHD patients.

Eosinophilia in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients

Journal of Dialysis, 1979
Peripheral blood eosinophilia was noted in 38% of a group of maintenance hemodialysis patients, and documented by bone marrow examination. The prevalence of eosinophilia rose with increasing time on hemodialysis. In 3 subjects the phenomenon appeared to be related to dialysis equipment, but the relationship was less clear in the group as a whole ...

The design of cannulas for maintenance hemodialysis

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1970
AbstractBecause the Silastic‐Teflon cannulas used for maintenance dialysis are far from ideal, usually failing in less than 1 yr, the factors affecting pressure drop in the cannula system have been evaluated theoretically and confirmed by actual measurements in vitro.

Hospitalization for Initiation of Maintenance Hemodialysis

Nephron Clinical Practice, 2004
Background: Recent data on complications of hemodialysis (HD) is lacking. With advancement in dialysis technology the incidence of complications such as dialysis disequilibrium syndrome (DDS) has decreased. Notwithstanding these improvements many patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) continue to be hospitalized solely for ...
