Pruritus in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis
Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1988ABSTRACT Twenty‐nine patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis were examined for dermatologic symptoms. Nineteen patients (66%) complained of pruritus, which was classified as mild (34%), moderate (24%), and severe (8%). Patients with pruritus did not differ from those without pruritus regarding serum concentrations of creatinine, urea, calcium ...

Sodium Balance in Maintenance Hemodialysis
Seminars in Dialysis, 2010AbstractMaintenance of extracellular fluid volume balance is an essential role of chronic maintenance hemodialysis (HD). In this population, this balance is determined by salt intake during the interdialytic period and sodium removal in HD sessions.

Protein requirements in maintenance hemodialysis
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1978Protein requirements in maintenance hemodialysis patients are still unclear. Based on nitrogen balance studies and different analyses of protein and amino acid metabolism, the recommendations until recently were 1 g/kg of body weight, primarily of high biological value protein.

Ascites in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis
Nephron, 2008Intractable ascites is encountered with increasing frequency in patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis. Eight patients out of 68 developed moderate to massive ascites. Peritoneal dialysis antedated hemodialysis in all of them and the duration on either form of dialysis bore no relationship to the appearance of ascites.

Intradialytic Hypertension in Maintenance Hemodialysis
Current Hypertension ReportsTo summarize the current evidence regarding epidemiology, clinical pathophysiology, and latest therapeutic approaches for the management of intradialytic hypertension (IDH).IDH is a rather common complication of dialysis, affecting 10-15% of the patient population and significantly increasing the cardiovascular risk.

Mannitol and maintenance hemodialysis.
Artificial organs, 1980The extensive use of mannitol during maintenance hemodialysis prompted a study of mannitol kinetics. In 17 patients receiving empirical mannitol therapy of mannitol kinetics. In 17 patients receiving empirical mannitol therapy, residual levels range from 19 to 100 mg% In vitro mannitol clearance exceeds 125 ml/min for the CDAK 5 and PF 1.6 dialyzers ...

Lymphocyte Subpopulations in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
Journal of Dialysis, 1978Lymphocyte counts and T,B and null cell proportions were analyzed in forty non-splenectomized, non-nephrectomized maintenance hemodialysis patients, and compared with those in controls. The patients were lymphopenic, but had normal T, B and null cell percentages, regardless of tehir primary renal disease.

Nutritional requirements in maintenance hemodialysis
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 2003There is a high prevalence of nutritional disorders in maintenance hemodialysis patients. This fact has been recently confirmed because larger routine assessments of MHD patients body composition are now performed. Food records and dietary interviews show spontaneous low intakes of protein and energy in many patients.

Cardiac Arrhythmias in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis
Nephron, 200817 patients on maintenance hemodialysis were monitored for cardiac arrhythmias using ambulatory electrocardiographic recording. Atrioventricular dissociation was found in a patient with an elevated serum digoxin concentration, intradialytic supraventricular tachycardia had been present in a second patient during acute uremic pericarditis prior to the ...

Vascular calcifications under maintenance hemodialysis
Klinische Wochenschrift, 1977In a cross-sectional study X-rays of the forefoot and the pelvis of 101 adult dialysis patients were taken. Vascular calcifications (forefoot) were observed in 20 patients. The incidence was higher in patients who had been started on dialysis several years ago.
