Sequence Analysis of the Major Surface Glycoprotein of Leishmania Major
1989During the initial stages of infection by Leishmania, the interaction between parasites and macrophages in the mammalian host is mediated by macrophage receptors and cell surface molecules on Leishmania. Parasites are engulfed by phagocytosis, then differentiate from extracellular promastigotes to intracellular amastigotes which reside within the ...

Retaining majors through the introductory sequence
Proceedings of the 38th SIGCSE technical symposium on Computer science education, 2007Retention is an important issue for Computer Science Departments. In many cases students leave the major due to frustrations with programming in the complex languages often used in CS1 and CS2 or because they do not understand that computer science is much more than programming.

Sequence data as the major criterion for potyvirus classification
1992Recent knowledge of the structure of the potyvirus particle and its components appears to have resolved what was thought to be an intractable problem of plant virology. This review describes how coat-protein and gene sequence data can be used to provide an hierarchical classification of potyviruses.

SEQUENCING THE MAJOR MYCOSPHAERELLA PATHOGENS OF WHEAT AND BANANA
Acta Horticulturae, 2009Mycosphaerella is one of the largest genera of plant-pathogenic fungi with more than 1,000 named species, many of which are important pathogens causing leaf spotting diseases in a wide variety of crops including cereals, citrus, banana, eucalypts, soft fruits and horticultural crops.

On Sequences of Random Processes with Tight Jump Majorization
Theory of Probability & Its Applications, 1987Let (Y,\(\rho)\) be a complete, separable metric space and \(D=D_{[0,\infty [}(Y)\) be the space of cadlag Y-valued functions on [0,\(\infty [\). The author says that the sequence of processes \((X^ n)_{n\in {\mathbb{N}}}\), with sample paths in D, has tight majorization of jumps (t.m.j.) if for every \(\epsilon >0\) there is a process \(\gamma ...

Sequence-Specific Recognition of the Major Groove of RNA by Deoxystreptamine
Biochemistry, 2002Aminoglycoside antibiotics specifically interact with a variety of RNA sequences, and in particular with the decoding region of 16S ribosomal RNA in the aminoacyl tRNA acceptor site (A-site). Ring II of aminoglycosides (2-deoxystreptamine) is the most conserved element among aminoglycoside antibiotics that bind to the A-site.

Cloning and sequencing of the Leishmania major actin-encoding gene
Gene, 1994We report the cloning and characterization of the genomic sequence of the actin (Act)-encoding gene (act) from Leishmania major. Restriction maps of two genomic clones, as well as genomic Southern analysis strongly suggest that the act of L. major is a single-copy gene. A single 1.6-kb transcript is detected in Northern blots.

Determination of mouse major asialoglycoprotein receptor cDNA sequence
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1993Hepatic lectins (asialoglycoprotein receptors) specifically recognize galactose-terminated glycoproteins and mediate endocytosis of these molecules. We now report the cloning and sequence of a cDNA encoding murine asialoglycoprotein receptor. It shows high homology with rat and human major receptor forms designated RHL-1 and HHL-1, respectively.

The Human Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) is a highly polymorphic region full of immunoregulatory genes. The MHC codes for the human leukocyte antigens (HLA), proteins that present on the cellular surface and that are involved in self-non-self recognition.

Sequence analysis of major histocompatibility molecules
1998Abstract The GenBank database for nucleotide sequences contains over 1500 000 entries and 1.5% are derived from loci of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Parham noted that in 1986 approximately 12000 amino acid residues had been determined for human class I molecules by protein and DNA sequencing methods.
