Real and Apparent Deviations From Rational Choice

open access: yesKyklos, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper offers a taxonomy of real and apparent deviations from rationality. The taxonomy is based on three axes of divides—whereas the axes are successive refinements. The outermost‐axis divide delineates “anxiety‐based choices” from “anxiety‐free choices.” Anxiety‐based choices are real deviations such as the Allais and Ellsberg paradoxes ...

Internal and International Migration of Scholars in Times of Conflict: The Case of Ukraine, 2009‐2022

open access: yesPopulation and Development Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Current migration theories occasionally ignore the potentially negative aspects of scholarly migration as a form of high‐skilled migration, largely viewing it in a positive light. Yet scholarly migration is not always a tale of freedom and innovation, as the labels “researchers at risk” and “scientists in exile” demonstrate.

Concurrent Measurement of O2 Production and Isoprene Emission During Photosynthesis: Pros, Cons and Metabolic Implications of Responses to Light, CO2 and Temperature

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional leaf gas exchange experiments have focused on net CO2 exchange (Anet). Here, using California poplar (Populus trichocarpa), we coupled measurements of net oxygen production (NOP), isoprene emissions and δ18O in O2 to traditional CO2/H2O gas exchange with chlorophyll fluorescence, and measured light, CO2 and temperature response ...

Retrospective Bullying Victimization and Loneliness in Undergraduates: Mediating Roles of Emotion Suppression and Rumination

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Childhood bullying victimization experiences contribute to higher levels of loneliness in adulthood, but the mechanism underlying this relation is unclear. Potentially, individual differences in emotion regulation may underlie the relation between childhood bullying victimization and adult loneliness.

A Matter of Memory? Age‐Invariant Relative Clause Disambiguation and Memory Interference in Older Adults

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Past research suggests that Working Memory plays a role in determining relative clause attachment bias. Disambiguation preferences may further depend on Processing Speed and explicit memory demands in linguistic tasks. Given that Working Memory and Processing Speed decline with age, older adults offer a way of investigating the factors ...

Mitochondrial haplotype and sex modulate responses to endurance exercise training

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Using OKC‐HETB/W rats we demonstrate that mitochondrial haplotype influences training responses of endurance exercise. Overall OKC‐HETW rats showed greater responses than OKC‐HETB in exercise tolerance, mitochondrial bioenergetics, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutation frequencies and motor co‐ordination.
