Malaria epidemics in Europe after the First World War: the early stages of an international approach to the control of the disease Malária epidêmica na Europa após a Primeira Guerra Mundial: estágios iniciais de uma abordagem internacional de controle da doença

open access: yesHistória, Ciências, Saúde: Manguinhos, 2011
The severity and endemicity of malaria declined gradually in Europe until WWI. During and after the war, the number of malaria cases increased substantially and peaked in 1922-1924.

The contribution of extracellular RNA and its derived biomaterials in disease management

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The implications of exRNA's biological function and the structural uniqueness of RNA help establish a close connection between RNA, material, and modern medicine. Abstract The RNA found in the circular system is known as extracellular RNA (exRNA). This kind of RNA has been found to play a biological role similar to that of a messenger. They can be used

In Vitro Antiplasmodial Activity and Chemical Composition of Combretum aculeatum, a Medicinal Plant From Niger

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
Workflow of current study. ABSTRACT Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in Niger, accounting for 5.6% of global malaria‐related deaths. Local medicinal plants are frequently used as traditional treatments for malaria, although their efficacy and safety are often insufficiently investigated.

Characterization of the Cubamyces menziesii terpenome

open access: yesChemBioChem, Accepted Article.
Long‐lasting polypore fungi are significant producers of terpene cyclases of high interest for medicinal or biotechnological applications. Following the 1,000 Fungal Genomes initiative launched by the Joint Genome Institute, we explored the genome of Cubamyces (C.) menziesii and identified eighteen genes encoding sesquiterpene cyclases. In a search for

The Synthesis of Hydroquinolines from Nitroaldehydes and Ketones by Hydrogenation Sequences and Condensations

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
We report here a novel complex chemical reaction namely the synthesis of hydroquinolines starting from nitroaldehydes and ketones and hydrogen. The nitroaldehyde is selectively hydrogenated forming an aminoaldehyde, followed by a base‐catalyzed condensation leading to a quinoline intermediate and selective quinoline hydrogenation.
