Protective Role for Itaconate During Inhaled Allergen Challenge
Itaconate levels decrease in sputum following allergen inhalation in mild asthmatics, suggesting a dynamic metabolic response to airway challenge. Genetic deletion of Acod1 in mice did not alter airway inflammation or remodelling in response to chronic HDM exposure.

We investigated measures of mitochondrial function in certain types of blood cells and metabolism in 65 children, 5–10 years old. Compared to children of normal weight (n = 20), children with overweight/obesity (n = 28) and especially those with insulin resistance (n = 17), differed in how their cells produced energy.

Combating muscle atrophy: emerging therapeutic targets that are fiber‐type‐specific
Inflammation, denervation or decreased insulin signaling activate proteolysis and cause muscle wasting. Pathological conditions like obesity and DMD can also exacerbate atrophy via PGD2–RhoA–ROCK2 signaling. In contrast, exercise, dietary interventions, and pharmacological agents can activate Ca2+/calcineurin–NFAT and AMPK–PGC‐1α–MEF pathways ...

Expression of the LEA‐K peptide in E. coli BL21 (DE3) improved bacterial viability under acidic stress (pH4), suggesting a protective function. RNA‐sequencing of LEA‐K‐expressing vs. non‐expressing cells revealed 283 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). In silico docking linked LEA‐K to two‐component systems (TCS) proteins (Rcs, BtsS/R, and EnvZ/OmpR)

Cryptic CAM photosynthesis in Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia, Y. jaegeriana)
Summary Joshua trees are long‐lived perennial monocots native to the Mojave Desert in North America. Composed of two species, Yucca brevifolia and Y. jaegeriana (Asparagaceae), Joshua trees are imperiled by climate change, with decreases in suitable habitat predicted under future climate change scenarios.

Guard cell starch and malate metabolism facilitate stomatal opening in response to low CO2
Summary Guard cells adjust turgor to regulate stomatal aperture, integrating ion transport with metabolic adjustments. The effect of reduced CO2 on stomatal movement, expected under enhanced photosynthesis, remains largely unexplored. We exposed Arabidopsis thaliana plants to low CO2 before light onset and analyzed guard cell starch turnover, malate ...
