MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry: A Powerful Tool for Clinical Microbiology at Hôpital Principal de Dakar, Senegal (West Africa). [PDF]
Our team in Europe has developed the routine clinical laboratory identification of microorganisms by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry (MS). To evaluate the utility of MALDI-TOF MS in tropical Africa

Evaluation of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for the Identification of Group B Streptococcus. [PDF]
Objective Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of neonatal meningitis and sepsis worldwide. Intrapartum antibiotics given to women carrying GBS are an effective means of reducing disease in the first week of life.

Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Limitations of MALDI-TOF MS in the fungal identification: could LC-MS/MS be a solution? [PDF]
Fungal polyphasic identification aims the integration of different taxonomic characters. By using numerous techniques, it is assumed the level of variation in the technique can be reduced, although variation in the fungal specimen remains.

Profiling embryonic stem cell differentiation by MALDI TOF mass spectrometry:development of a reproducible and robust sample preparation workflow [PDF]
MALDI TOF mass spectrometry (MS) is widely used to characterise and biotype bacterial samples, but a complementary method for profiling of mammalian cells is still underdeveloped.

Highly efficient heavy‐atom‐free NIR photosensitizers based on a heptamethine cyanine platform were developed for image‐guided photodynamic therapy. Both in vitro and in vivo results revealed that the R820‐3 photosensitizer with a highly twisted molecular structure exhibited potential for NIR fluorescence image‐guided photodynamic cancer therapy ...
