Rapid MALDI-TOF MS identification of commercial truffles [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractTruffles are edible mushrooms with similar morphological characteristics, that make it difficult to distinguish between highly prized truffles (such as the Périgord black T. melanosporum) and inexpensive truffles (such as the Asian Black T. indicum). These biological and economic features have led to several misidentifications and/or fraudulent

A Biochar‐Based Composite Hydrogel Microenvironment for Enhanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the synthesis of a polyacrylamide hydrogel wherein biomass‐derived biochar is co‐encapsulated with the enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The resulting composite hydrogel possesses balanced electron‐rich and electron‐deficient domains, creating an optimal microenvironment that concentrates both hydrogen peroxide and phenol ...

Quantitative Approach to Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Analysis Using MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2000
Pooling of DNA samples before genotyping is a valuable means of streamlining large-scale genotyping efforts in disease association studies, single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) validation or mutant allele screening programs.

Mitochondria‐Specific Protein Delivery by Protease‐Triggered Release in Plants with Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Polymer‐coated carbon nanotubes were engineered as protease‐responsive nanocarriers for protein delivery in intact plants. GFP cargo can be released by cytosolic phytaspase cleavage and subsequently targeted to mitochondria via an N‐terminal sequence, enabling controlled intracellular protein delivery without tissue damage and demonstrating stable ...

Investigating Antifungal Susceptibility in Candida Species With MALDI-TOF MS-Based Assays

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2019
Half of invasive fungal infections lead to death. Amongst pathogenic fungi, the most widespread species belong to the Candida genus and vary in their susceptibility to antifungal drugs.

Bay‐functionalized [7]Helicene Bilayer Nanographenes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Bay‐functionalized [7]helical bilayer nanographenes are synthesized via a scalable, modular strategy enabling late‐stage diversification. Tailored methoxy, diketone, and phenazine substitutions precisely tune redox, photophysical, and chiroptical properties, delivering strong electronic circular dichroism and bright circularly polarized luminescence ...

MALDI-TOF MS protein fingerprinting of mixed samples

open access: yesBiology Methods and Protocols, 2019
Abstract Analytical techniques currently available for the characterization of mixtures of microorganisms are generally based on next-generation sequencing. Motivated to develop practical and less-expensive methods for characterizing such mixtures, we propose, as an alternative or complement, the use of matrix-assisted laser-desorption ...

Gut Bacteria Improve Depressive Symptoms by Degrading Cortisol into Androgen

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic stress is an important risk factor for stress‐related disorders such as depression. Stress hormone cortisol is essential for the pathogenesis of stress‐related disorders such as depression. Some gut microbiota degraded cortisol, and improve depressive symptoms.

First Comprehensive Report of Clinical Fusarium Strains Isolated in the State of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Identified by MALDI-TOF MS and Molecular Biology

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
The aim of this study was to compare the performance of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), phenotypic and molecular methods for the identification of Fusarium species complexes isolated from ...

Balanced Expression of the Diiron Oxygenase BioE Is Essential for Biotin Homeostasis in Elizabethkingia meningoseptica

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BioE is a new diiron oxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of long‐chain acyl groups into pimeloyl thioester, initiating biotin synthesis. The overexpression of EmBioE disrupts lipid metabolic homeostasis, requiring repressor BioL to maintain a balance between long‐chain fatty acids and biotin synthesis.
