Evolution of female choice under intralocus sexual conflict and genotype-by-environment interactions [PDF]

open access: yesLi, X. Y., & Holman, L. (2018). Evolution of female choice under intralocus sexual conflict and genotype-by-environment interactions. Phil. Trans. R. Soc. B, 373(1757), 20170425, 2018
In many species, females are hypothesised to obtain 'good genes' for their offspring by mating with males in good condition. However, female preferences might deplete genetic variance and make choice redundant. Additionally, high-condition males sometime produce low-fitness offspring, for example because of environmental turnover and gene-by ...

Microbiology and immune mechanisms associated with male infertility

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Up to 50% of infertility is caused by the male side. Varicocele, orchitis, prostatitis, oligospermia, asthenospermia, and azoospermia are common causes of impaired male reproductive function and male infertility.

Short peptide perturbs spermatogenesis via immune microenvironment dysregulation and mitochondrial imbalance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Simulating Male Selfish Strategy in Reproduction Dispute [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We introduce into the Penna Model for biological ageing one of the possible male mechanisms used to maximize the ability of their sperm to compete with sperm from other males. Such a selfish mechanism increases the male reproduction success but may decrease the survival probability of the whole female population, depending on how it acts.
