Protonophore activity of short‐chain fatty acids induces their intracellular accumulation and acidification

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Physicochemical conditions for the stability of manganese-doped nanolayers of gallium arsenide and its iso-electronic analogues

open access: yesChimica Techno Acta, 2015
In this paper research of stability of nanolayers of manganese doped materials of AIIIBV and AIIBIVСV2 types holding much promise as spintronic semiconductor compounds is described. The method of non-local density functional has been applied to calculate

Controlling the Temperature of the Spin-Reorientation Transition In HoFe1-xMnxO3 Orthoferrite Single Crystals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
HoFe1-xMnxO3 (0 < x < 1) single crystals have been grown by the optical floating zone technique. A structural transition from the orthorhombic to hexagonal modification has been established in the crystals in the concentration range of 0.7-0.8, which has been confirmed by the X-ray diffraction data.

Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Hydration induced spin glass state in a frustrated Na-Mn-O triangular lattice [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B 93, 184422 (2016), 2016
Birnessite compounds are stable across a wide range of compositions that produces a remarkable diversity in their physical, electrochemical and functional properties. These are hydrated analogues of the magnetically frustrated, mixed-valent manganese oxide structures, with general formula, NaxMnO2.

Photocatalytic Water Oxidation Using Manganese Compounds Immobilized in Nafion Polymer Membranes.

open access: yesAustralian journal of chemistry (Print), 2011
Robust water oxidation catalysts using earth abundant metals are required as part of an overall scheme to convert sunlight into fuels. Here, we report the immobilization of [[Formula: see text]O(5)(terpy)(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(6) (terpy = 2,2';6',2 ...

Test of airborne fluorometer over land surfaces and geologic materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Response of an experimental Fraunhofer line discriminator to a wide range of surficial deposits common in deserts and semideserts was tested in the laboratory and from an H-19 helicopter.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Thermodynamic Analysis of the Graphite Flake Formation of Low Manganese and Sulfur Gray Cast Iron [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2020
Low manganese and sulfur gray irons were produced by adding inoculant base Fe-Si with small amounts of Al and Ca in the ladle. The effect of the cast thickness, inoculant amount and shakeout time of the green sand molds were studied on the graphite flake
