Chemical Composition, Amino Acids, Phenolic Profiles and Bioavailability of Minerals in Livingstone Potato (Plectranthus esculentus) as Affected by Different Processing Techniques

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Boiling retained the nutrients and polyphenol compounds in Plectranthus esculentus tubers better than frying or roasting. A bioavailability study showed that the phytates and oxalates in the tuber may not affect the bioavailabilities of calcium, zinc, or iron in Plectranthus esculentus tubers when eaten.

Dewatering combined with Moringa oleifera extract coagulation for industrial‐grade cassava starch concentration

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Efficient dewatering is a critical step in cassava starch production because the moisture content of the concentrated slurry directly affects downstream drying costs and overall process efficiency. Conventional concentration routes, including sedimentation and centrifugation, often provide limited cake dryness and can increase ...

Morpho-physiological and molecular evaluation of drought tolerance in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz)

open access: yesField crops research (Print), 2020
Understanding drought tolerance mechanisms of cassava is a pre-requisite to improve the performance of the crop in water-scarce regions. Several hypotheses have been formulated to suggest how cassava can withstand a prolonged period of drought.

Effect of in situ amylase and fermented maize starch on texture and after‐cooking storability of lafun dough

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Lafun is made by fermenting and drying cassava chunks, which are then milled into flour and cooked into dough. Its quality characteristics are variety‐dependent, while it may become too soft or even liquefy during storage, leading to rejection by end‐users.

Fermentation techniques for protein enrichment of cassava peel

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The use of agro‐industrial by‐products such as unconventional feeds in animal production is an alternative for reducing the high costs associated with conventional feeds. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of aeration, pH adjustment, the use of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and the amount of urea on the enrichment of ...

Effect of Quarrying Dust on Leaves Weight and Plants Chlorophyll Content of Pawpaw (Carica papaya), Cassava (Manihot esculenta) and Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) in Akamkpa, Cross River State, Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2023
Accumulation of dust and other particulate matter on crops could affect photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and allow the penetration of phytotoxic gaseous pollutants, hence the agricultural crops show stunted growth, minimum leaf area, less ...

Terzyme: a tool for identification and analysis of the plant terpenome. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Terpenoid hydrocarbons represent the largest and most ancient group of phytochemicals, such that the entire chemical library of a plant is often referred to as its 'terpenome'.
