[Mannanases of microorganisms].
Ukrains'kyi biokhimichnyi zhurnal (1999 ), 2010The current data on microbial mannanases are summarised in the work. The questions concerning the spreading of mannanases substrates--mannans in nature, their structural variations are regarded. The production of mannanases by micro-organisms of different taxonomic groups, their physico-chemical properties and substrate specificity are described.

Isolation of β-mannanase-producing microorganism
Journal of Fermentation and Bioengineering, 1994Abstract A bacterium which produced β-mannanase was isolated from soil using copra meal as a crude mannan preparation. The partially purified enzyme solubilized copra mannan and produced mannobiose, mannotriose, and mannotetraose as major products. The enzyme appeared to hydrolyze the unsubstituted β-mannan domain preferentially.

α-Mannanase from Rhodococcus erythropolis
1988Publisher Summary This chapter describes the production, purification, and characteristics of Rhodococcus erythropolis possessing properties of α-mannanase. a-Mannanase is assayed by measuring the liberation of mannose from bakers' yeast mannan. The mannose released is determined by reducing sugar according to the method of Somogyi.

Microbial Mannanases: An Overview of Production and Applications
Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, 2007Microbial mannanases have become biotechnologically important since they target the hydrolysis of complex polysaccharides of plant tissues into simple molecules like manno-oligosaccharides and mannoses. The role of mannanases in the paper and pulp industry is well established and recently they have found application in the food and feed technology ...

Microbial Mannanases: Properties and Applications
2013Mannans are a major constituent of the hemicellulose fraction of lignocelluloses. Mannans perform distinct functions as structural components in cell walls of softwoods and storage functions in seeds. Enzymatic hydrolysis of mannan involves the backbone hydrolyzing endo-β-mannanases and β-mannosidases.

β-d-mannanases in germinating lucerne (alfalfa) seeds
Carbohydrate Research, 1980Extraction and fractionation of the beta-D-mannanases in germinating lucerne produced four fractions if extracts were stored prior to chromatography. However, when extracts were applied rapidly to DEAE-cellulose, one of the fractions of high molecular weight (separated subsequently by gel chromatography) was not detected, indicating that it was formed ...

Publisher Summary β-D-Mannanase enzymes are endohydrolases that cleave randomly within the 1,4-β-D-mannan main chain of galactomannan, glucomannan, galactoglucomannan, and mannan. The β-mannanases from a range of legume seeds, Bacillus subtilis and Irpex lacteus culture filtrates, and the gut solution of Helix pomatia have action patterns on ...

Mannanase production by the lettuce endosperm
Planta, 1979Endo-β-mannanase (EC 3.2.1.78) is produced and secreted by the cells of the endosperm of lettuce (lactuca sativa L.) "seeds" (achenes). In imbibed intact seeds, production is prevented by inhibitors. If the endosperm is incubated alone, these inhibitors can be removed by leaching, allowing mannanase production.

Endo-β-mannanase in tomato fruit
Phytochemistry, 1989Abstract Extracts of ripe tomato fruit hydrolysed locust bean galactomannan, a linear β-1,4-mannan with branches of single galactose residues. The viscosity of the reaction mixture decreased sharply relative to the release of reducing groups, indicating random hydrolysis of the mannan backbone of the polysaccharide.
