Over the last 20 years, the number of pathogenic multi-resistant microorganisms has grown steadily, which has stimulated the search for new strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), also called photodynamic

We report the enhancement of the lipopolysaccharide-induced immune response by adamantane containing peptidoglycan fragments in vitro. The immune stimulation was detected by Il-6 (interleukine 6) and RANTES (regulated on activation, normal T cell ...

Altered mannose metabolism in chronic stress and depression is rapidly reversed by vitamin B12
GDP-Mannose Pyrophosphorylase B (GMPPB) is a key enzyme for glycosylation. Previous studies suggested a dysregulation of GMPBB and mannose in depression. Evidence, however, was sporadic and interventions to reverse these changes are unknown.

Mannose Efflux from the Cells [PDF]
All mammals have 50-100 μM mannose in their blood. However, the source of the dynamic pool of mannose in blood is unknown. Most of it is thought to be derived from glucose in the cells. We studied mannose uptake and release by various cell types.

Mannose inhibition of nitrate uptake by wheat roots
The effect of mannose on nitrate uptake was investigated by a new non-invasive technique. Under normal condition, nitrate uptake by wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) roots was about 1-7 µmol gfwt-1 h-1.

Metabolic clogging of mannose triggers dNTP loss and genomic instability in human cancer cells
Mannose has anticancer activity that inhibits cell proliferation and enhances the efficacy of chemotherapy. How mannose exerts its anticancer activity, however, remains poorly understood.
