Macrophage mannose receptor in chronic sinus disease
Allergy, 2004Background: The role of infectious agents in the onset and maintenance of chronic sinus disease is still not fully understood. Macrophage mannose receptor (MMR), an innate pattern recognizing receptor, capable of phagocytosis of invaders and signal transduction for proinflammatory mechanisms, might be of importance in immune interactions in chronic ...

Differential regulation of the mannose and SP-A receptors on macrophages
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 1995Two carbohydrate-dependent mechanisms exist on alveolar macrophages to clear mannose-containing pathogens: receptor-mediated entry of non-opsonized microorganisms via the mannose receptor and receptor recognition of pathogens opsonized with surfactant-associated protein A (SP-A).

Identification and functional characterization of the mannose receptor in astrocytes
Glia, 1999The immune competence of astrocytes is still ill defined, especially their endocytic capacity, a prerequisite for efficient antigen presentation. We show that mannose receptor, a very important conduit for internalization of infectious agents and self antigens, is functionally expressed in the murine CNS.
