A new and improved confidence interval for the Mantel–Haenszel risk difference

Statistics in Medicine, 2014
Writing the variance of the Mantel–Haenszel estimator under the null of homogeneity and inverting the corresponding test, we arrive at an improved confidence interval for the common risk difference in stratified 2 × 2 tables. This interval outperforms a variety of other intervals currently recommended in the literature and implemented in software.

On the small-sample properties of the Mantel-Haenszel test for relative risk

Biometrika, 1974
SUMMARY For the analysis of combinations of 2 x 2 contingency tables Cochran (1954) and also Mantel & Haenszel (1959) proposed related statistics for the null hypothesis that the relative risk i/ has the value unity from table to table. Using the model with constant effects on a logistic scale of probabilities (e.g. Cox, 1970), this paper presents some

Modified mantel-haenszel procedures for matched pairs

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 1985
In the prospective study of a finely stratified population, one individual from each stratum is chosen at random for the “treatment” group and one for the “non-treatment” group. For each individual the probability of failure is a logistic function of parameters designating the stratum, the treatment and a covariate.
