Combined Lithophile‐Siderophile Isotopic Constraints on Hadean Processes Preserved in Ocean Island Basalt Sources

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
Detection of Hadean isotopic signatures within modern ocean island basalts (OIB) has greatly influenced understanding of Earth's earliest history and long‐term dynamics.

Tomography of core-mantle boundary and lowermost mantle coupled by geodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We propose an innovative approach to mapping CMB topography from seismic P-wave traveltime inversions: instead of treating mantle velocity and CMB topography as independent parameters, as has been done so far, we account for their coupling by mantle flow,

New Theory of the Earth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
New Theory of the Earth is an interdisciplinary advanced textbook on all aspects of the interior of the Earth and its origin, composition, and evolution: geophysics, geochemistry, dynamics, convection, mineralogy, volcanism, energetics and thermal ...

Volatile Element Evidence of Local MORB Mantle Heterogeneity Beneath the Southwest Indian Ridge, 48°–51°E

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
The mantle source beneath the Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR) reflects a complex history of contamination. Magmatic volatile contents are vital tracers of these kinds of heterogeneities, which may fractionate otherwise constant volatile/non‐volatile ...

Upper mantle heterogeneities beneath Central Europe [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1981
Summary. An inversion of ISC travel-time data from selected earthquakes in the distance range 30°-90° to 53 stations in Central Europe has been used to model velocity down to 600 km depth. The model explains 0.1–0.2s of the residuals, as for other array studies, leaving 0.5 s unexplained as noise.

Assessing optimal target populations for influenza vaccination programmes: an evidence synthesis and modelling study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Influenza vaccine policies that maximise health benefit through efficient use of limited resources are needed. Generally, influenza vaccination programmes have targeted individuals 65 y and over and those at risk, according to World Health ...

Tomographic evidence for compositional heterogeneity deep in earth’s mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In the past decade, tomographic imaging has revealed that trajectories of mantle convection are more complex than expected from end-member models of unhindered whole mantle circulation or layered convection with an interface at 660 km depth.

Tectonic significance of changes in post-subduction Pliocene-Quaternary magmatism in the south east part of the Carpathian-Pannonian Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The south-eastern part of the Carpathian–Pannonian region records the cessation of convergence between the European platform/Moesia and the Tisza–Dacia microplate.

Mantle dynamics and geodesy [PDF]

open access: yes
Both completed work and work that is still in progress are presented. The completed work presented includes: (1) core-mantle boundary topography; (2) absolute value for mantle viscosity; (3) code development; (4) lateral heterogeneity of subduction zone ...

Morphology and tectonics of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 7°–12°S

open access: yes, 2003
We present swath bathymetric, gravity, and magnetic data from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between the Ascension and the Bode Verde fracture zones, where significant ridge–hot spot interaction has been inferred.
