Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Mitigation of defects in products manufactured

open access: yes, 2015
This paper proposes a process of continuous improvement in which some statistical tools of quality (Control charts, the Pareto diagram and the cause-effect diagram) and risk management process contained in the NTC 5254 and ISO 31000 are used. The objective is to propose a set of simple steps to reduce the defects that occur in a production system.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Investigation of macroscopic defects of silicon carbide ceramics by stereolithography additive manufacturing

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials
The additive manufacturing process offers a solution for fabricating complex hollow structures that are challenging to realize through traditional ceramic preparation methods. However, defects are often inevitable during the additive manufacturing process.

Gate-sizing-based single Vdd test for bridge defects in multi-voltage designs

open access: yes, 2010
The use of multiple voltage settings for dynamic power management is an effective design technique. Recent research has shown that testing for resistive bridging faults in such designs requires more than one voltage setting for 100% fault coverage ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
