Marble

Proceedings of the 8th ACM International Conference on Systems for Energy-Efficient Buildings, Cities, and Transportation, 2021
Batteryless energy-harvesting sensing systems are attractive for low maintenance but face challenges in real-world applications due to low quality of service from sporadic and unpredictable energy availability. To overcome this challenge, recent data-driven energy management techniques optimize energy usage to maximize application performance even in ...

Nondissipative Marbling

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2008
A real-time marbling system for creating marbling textures interactively uses a modern GPU. The approach models the marbling texture design process as a 2D fluid-dynamics problem and forms textures as a result of the color advection in the 2D flow fields.

Mathematical Marbling

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2012
In this paper, the proposed method takes a mathematical approach with closed-form expressions to simulate marbling. This method improves control, ease of implementation, parallelism, and speed, enabling real-time visual feedback and creation of vivid flowing animations. Users can start designs from a blank sheet, raster images, or videos.

Liquid marbles

Nature, 2001
The transport of a small amount of liquid on a solid is not a simple process, owing to the nature of the contact between the two phases. Setting a liquid droplet in motion requires non-negligible forces (because the contact-angle hysteresis generates a force opposing the motion), and often results in the deposition of liquid behind the drop.

Proceedings of the 20th ACM SIGKDD international conference on Knowledge discovery and data mining, 2014
The rapidly increasing availability of electronic health records (EHRs) from multiple heterogeneous sources has spearheaded the adoption of data-driven approaches for improved clinical research, decision making, prognosis, and patient management. Unfortunately, EHR data do not always directly and reliably map to phenotypes, or medical concepts, that ...

MARBLS

Proceedings of the 24th annual ACM symposium adjunct on User interface software and technology, 2011
Physicians and nurses usually rely on hospital information systems (HIS) for detecting a variety of adverse clinical conditions and reminding repetitive treatments. However, the acquisition of alert rules expected by HIS from experts remains a challenging, error-prone, and time-consuming process.

Under μάρμαρος, marmor , the ancient Greeks included all stones capable of taking on a high polish including not only marble, but granites, porphyries, and limestones. In modern Greek usage, μάρμαρος refers exclusively to marble.
