Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

The use of general and specific combining abilities in a context of gene expression relevant to plant breeding [PDF]

open access: yes
Many common traits are believed to be a composite reflection of multiple genetic and environmental factors. Recent advances suggest that subtle variations in the regulation of gene expression may contribute to quantitative traits.

Efficiency of marker assisted selection

open access: yesAnimal Biotechnology, 1997
Genetic markers can be used in breeding programmes in a variety of ways. Here we emphasize marker assisted introgression in crossbred populations, and marker assisted selection in outbred populations. As marker typing costs reduce, the value of their use in a breeding programme will be dominated by returns rather than their costs.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Selection for cacao resistance to Moniliasis assisted by molecular markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The basidiomycete Moniliophthora roreri, the causal agent of moniliasis, occurs in many cocoa producer countries in South and Central Americas, but not yet in Brazil.

A Short Review on the Development of Salt Tolerant Cultivars in Rice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Rice is staple food for half of the world. With a population of almost 9.6 billion by the year 2050, there is a dire need of developing techniques to improve the crop plants, not only in terms of better yield but also to withstand harsh environmental ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Improving stress coping ability: comparison between the CYP17 genotype Of Ovis Aries and Capra Hircus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The ability of animals to adapt to stress is not only an animal health and welfare concern, but also influences reproduction potential and robustness. An important pathway involved in the stress response is the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPAA ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Collaborative project between CIAT and Cirad rice improvement through the use of synthetic populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Cirad/CIAT rice collaborative project focuses on the development and enhancement of rice synthetic populations through recurrent selection (RS) with the goal to develop and diffuse improved material, populations or lines, for various rainfed ...
