Dual-barrel conductance micropipet as a new approach to the study of ionic crystal dissolution kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A new approach to the study of ionic crystal dissolution kinetics is described, based on the use of a dual-barrel theta conductance micropipet. The solution in the pipet is undersaturated with respect to the crystal of interest, and when the meniscus at ...

Rigorous Multicomponent Reactive Separations Modelling : Complete Consideration of Reaction-Diffusion Phenomena [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper gives the first step of the development of a rigorous multicomponent reactive separation model. Such a model is highly essential to further the optimization of acid gases removal plants (CO2 capture, gas treating, etc.) in terms of size and ...

FREEZE-DRYING KINETICS APPROACH OF SOLUBLE COFFEE. MASS TRANSFER PARAMETERS ESTIMATION

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Chemia, 2017
The present paper presents the freeze-drying kinetics of soluble coffee in order to determine the mass transfer parameters. Several semi-theoretical and empirical models were used to find the best fit to the experimental data.

Hydration kinetics of transgenic soybeans

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2015
The kinetic and experimental analyses of the hydration process of transgenic soybeans (BRS 225 RR) are provided. The importance of the hydration process consists of the grain texture modifications which favor grinding and extraction of soybeans.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Modelling of mass transfer during wood fermentation processes to produce bioalcohol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this work is to model the bioethanol production by wood degradation, and to check if there is mass transfer limitations in the reactions steps from the wood particles to the microorganisms due to the transferring of molecules that are involved

Upscaling multi-component two-phase flow in porous media with partitioning coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper deals with the upscaling of multicomponents two-phase flow in porous media. In this paper, chemical potential equilibrium at the interface between both phases is assumed to be described by a linear partitioning relationship such as Raoult or ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
