The polishing process of advanced ceramic balls using a novel eccentric lapping machine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The finishing process of advanced ceramic balls can be divided into two steps. The first step is lapping in which most of the stock from the ball is removed at a higher material removal rate.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The kinetics and mechanisms of destabilisation and aggregation of microcolloidal iron and associated phosphate during simulated estuarine mixing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The removal of iron from the <0.45µm fraction of Tamar River water on addition of both calcium chloride solution and sea water was studied using a continuous autoanalytical system.

Multi-Objective Optimization of Material Removal Rate and Tool Wear in Rough Honing Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
This study focuses on obtaining regression models for material removal rate and tool wear in rough honing processes. For this purpose, experimental tests were carried out according to a central composite design of experiments.

Study on Material Removal Rate of EDM in Deionized Water

open access: yesJournal of The Japan Society of Electrical Machining Engineers, 1999
This paper describes that the material removal rate of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) is higher when deionized water is used as the working fluid than when EDM working oil is used. Influences of the electrode surface temperature, discharge energy distribution, carbon precipitation on anode surface, electrolysis, and reaction of oxidation on ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Analysis on mechanism of material removal rate and surface flow machining process [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
A novel finishing technique called abrasive flow machining (AFM) uses abrasive particles as the instrument for material removal. The term "self-deformable stone" refers to the abrasive particle-containing carrier medium, and AFM is commonly known as "no ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Ablative Material Removal with a preset Removal Rate or Volume or Depth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The present invention includes a method of surgical material removal from a body by optical-ablation with controlled pulse energy from an amplifier including inputting an ablation-threshold-pulse-energy-for-material-being-ablated signal; controlling the ...
