Maternal and foetal ECG separation using blind source separation methods

Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 1997
The separation of the maternal and foetal electrocardiograms (ECGs) from skin electrodes located on the mother's body may be modelled as a blind source separation (BSS) problem. This consists in the reconstruction of a set of unknown mutually independent source signals from the sole knowledge of another set of linear mixtures of the sources, where the ...

Mechanisms for racial separation and inequitable maternal care in hospital maternity wards

Social Science & Medicine, 2022
Few studies have examined mechanisms of racial maternal separation (RMS) of birthing mothers in hospital maternity wards (MWs), and how separation might reinforce institutional healthcare racism and discrimination, leading to inequitable maternal care (MC).

Premature maternal separation and lymphocyte function

Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, 1988
Premature separation of rat pups from their mothers, on postnatal Day 15, produced a decreased response of peripheral blood lymphocytes to phytohemagglutinin (PHA) at 40 days of age. A significant lymphopenia was also found in the early weaned animals at 40 days of age although this was accounted for statistically by their lower body weight.

Maternally separated rats show deficits in maternal care in adulthood

Developmental Psychobiology, 2001
AbstractAlthough there is considerable research on the phenomenology, neuroendocrinology, neuroanatomy, and sensory control of maternal behavior, little is known about the influences of early postnatal and postweaning experiences on the development of maternal behavior.

Maternal Separation Anxiety

1988
One clear conclusion from the research on the effects of maternal employment is that the relationships among employment, maternal beliefs, attitudes and practices, and child development are complex and require consideration of many factors. Stolz (1960), in one of the first reviews of the topic, concluded that a striking characteristic of the research ...

Separation in Unity: Dialogical Transformation of Maternal Bond

Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Science, 2022
The objective of this paper is to explore mothers' psychological adaptation related to separation from their newborn children immediately after birth. Mother and child separation has traditionally received attention from the child's perspective, but given that the bond is dyadic, the mother's wellbeing should also be considered.

Responses to maternal separation : mechanisms and mediators

International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, 1998
AbstractClinical studies indicate the predominance of psychosocial factors (nurturing environment) in the genesis of the Maternal Deprivation Syndrome. Consequences of disrupting mother‐infant interactions range from marked suppression of certain neuroendocrine and physiological systems after short periods of maternal deprivation to retardation of ...

Sexual behavior of maternally separated gibbons (Hylobates)

Developmental Psychobiology, 1997
The effect of early maternal separation on the sexual behavior of captive gibbons was investigated because (a) maternal separation compromises sexual behavior of some nonhuman primates and (b) adequate sexual behavior is essential to species propagation. Most of the maternally separated gibbons (24/31) were sexually proficient.

Maternal attachment and separation

1984
Perhaps the most influential contributions to the subject of attachment behaviour have been made by John Bowlby. Since the publication of his monograph for the World Health Organization in 1951, Bowlby has maintained that the mental health of the child is dependent on the warm and continuous relationship with his mother.
