Immunological consequences of maternal separation in infant primates

New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development, 1989

Psychopharmacology of maternal separation anxiety in vervet monkeys

Metabolic Brain Disease, 2006
Maternal separation in non-human primates has been proposed as a model of early adversity. The symptoms of separation anxiety were studied in vervet monkeys, during the weaning period, when psychotropic medications were administered. The control group received a normal diet and treatment groups received citalopram, reboxetine or lamotrigine in their ...

Effect of maternal odor on the cardiac rate of maternally separated infant rats

Physiology & Behavior, 1977
Abstract Infant rat pups show a consistent deceleratory cardiac response when separated from their mothers. In pups isolated for 2 hr, the presentation of maternal odors brought about an abrupt acceleration of heart rate. The presentation of the odor of a nonlactating female rat, or no odor, had no effect on the declining cardiac rate.

Responses of maternal and non-maternal ewes to social and mother-young separation

Behavioural Processes, 1994
The response to social deprivation in non-maternal non-pregnant ewes was compared with that in post-parturient ewes kept with their lamb. In addition, the response to separation from the lamb was investigated in lactating ewes at times ranging from 24 h to 2 months post partum. Ewes were observed for 5 min in a 2 × 4 m pen, either in the presence or in

Circadian rhythm changes following maternal separation.

Chronobiologia, 1983
The monkey mother-infant separation paradigm is one of the best available animal models of grief and loss related depression. Because of the evidence implicating a relationship between disturbances in circadian rhythms and affective behavioral disorders, we studied circadian rhythms of temperature and heart rate in 10 group living infant pigtailed (M ...

Early Postpartum Separation and Maternal Attachment to Twins

JOGN Nursing, 1981
A mother's attachment to her newborn twins was delayed due to a postpartal maternal illness. Attachment as affected by twin births and separation from the mother is reviewed. Nursing actions, designed to facilitate attachment, are described as encompassing the needs of the whole family. Use of these concepts in similar situations is discussed.

Antecedents of Maternal Separation Anxiety

1993
Antecedents of maternal separation anxiety were examined in 83 Italian mothers prior to their infants or toddlers entering group care. As measured by the Maternal Separation Anxiety Scale, mothers' anxiety did not vary with the child's age. Hierarchical regressions revealed that anxious mothers were younger and less educated, received less support, had
