Phylogeny of Miliusa (Magnoliales: Annonaceae: Malmeoideae: Miliuseae), with descriptions of two new species from Malesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The molecular phylogeny of Miliusa (Annonaceae) is reconstructed, with 27 (of ca. 50) species included, using a combination of seven plastid markers (rbcL exon, trnL intron, trnL-F spacer, matK exon, ndhF exon, psbA-trnH spacer, and ycf1 exon ...

DNA Barcoding in Selected Species and Subspecies of Rye (Secale) Using Three Chloroplast Loci (matK, rbcL, trnH-psbA)

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2018
DNA barcoding is a relatively new method of identifying plant species using short sequences of chloroplast DNA. Although there is a large number of studies using barcoding on various plant species, there are no such studies in the genus Secale.

Heterogeneity of iridoid biosynthesis in catmints: Molecular background in a phylogenetic context

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Evolutionary gains and losses of key biosynthetic genes likely resulting from multiple independent evolutionary events explain why certain Nepeta (catnip) species produce both the active, cat‐attracting nepetalactones and sugar‐bound iridoids, while others make only the sugar‐bound forms, and some have lost iridoid production entirely.

Molecular phylogenetics of Phyllanthaceae: evidence from plastid MATK and nuclear PHYC sequences [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 2005
Plastid matK and a fragment of the low‐copy nuclear gene PHYC were sequenced for 30 genera of Phyllanthaceae to evaluate tribal and generic delimitation. Resolution and bootstrap percentages obtained with matK are higher than that of PHYC, but both regions show nearly identical phylogenetic patterns.

GENETICS IDENTIFICATION OF SEA HOLLY (Acanthus ilicifolius) THROUGH DNA BARCODING FROM COASTAL CILACAP, CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA

open access: yesBiotropia: The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Biology, 2019
Sea holly (Acanthus ilicifolius) is an important true mangrove species commonly growing on wetlands at the river mouths and coastal areas. Very limited information is available on the molecular taxonomy of sea holly growing along the coasts of Cilacap ...

A molecular phylogeny of Taeniophyllum THRJ inferred from DNA barcode regions

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biotechnology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2021
Taeniophyllum is one of the smallest orchids in the world. This genus has around 210 species listed in the plant list. One type of this orchid is found in the Juanda Forest Park (THRJ) Bandung.

Genes Translocated into the Plastid Inverted Repeat Show Decelerated Substitution Rates and Elevated GC Content. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plant chloroplast genomes (plastomes) are characterized by an inverted repeat (IR) region and two larger single copy (SC) regions. Patterns of molecular evolution in the IR and SC regions differ, most notably by a reduced rate of nucleotide substitution ...

Hidden lineages in the African Sky Islands: A taxonomic reevaluation of Afrocarduus (Compositae)

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Species delimitation is crucial for biodiversity studies. Using Hyb‐Seq and phylogenomics, we reassessed Afrocarduus, endemic to Afromontane and Afroalpine regions, uncovering 16 evolutionary lineages (2.3 Mya). Morphological data support their distinctiveness, with acaulescence evolving independently twice. The traditionally broad A.

Integrative phylogenomics and morphology reveal the evolution and biogeography of Encephalartos (Zamiaceae)

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
We aimed to conduct phylogenetic analyses of Encephalartos, a cycad genus endemic to Africa, using 3545 single‐copy nuclear genes extracted from transcriptome data, covering 64/65 of the recognized species, along with inference of divergence times using two secondary calibration points.
