Physical models of bacterial chromosomes

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 123, Issue 2, Page 143-153, February 2025.
Connecting experimental observations to biophysical models can give rise to new insights on bacterial chromosome organization. Simple polymer models explore how physical constraints affect bacterial chromosome organization; bottom‐up mechanistic models connect these constraints to their underlying causes; and data‐driven models are inferred directly ...

MATP: A Multi-agent Model for the University Timetabling Problem

open access: yes, 2016
This paper proposes a multi-agent model for solving the university course timetabling problem. It is composed of cooperating agents enabling highly distributed processing of the problem and incorporating constraints that have not been considered by previous works.

Changes of Proteins and Enzyme Activity in Black Matpe Organs during Germination.

open access: yesNippon Eiyo Shokuryo Gakkaishi, 1997

Analysis of Cultured Human Melanocytes Based on Polymorphisms within the SLC45A2/MATP, SLC24A5/NCKX5, and OCA2/P Loci [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 2009
Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the SLC45A2/MATP, SLC24A5/NCKX5, and OCA2/P genes have been associated with natural variation of pigmentation traits in human populations. Here, we describe the characterization of human primary melanocytic cells genotyped for polymorphisms within the MATP, NCKX5, or OCA2 loci.

The Interactive Role of Climatic Transfer Distance and Overstory Retention on Douglas‐Fir Seedling Survival and Height Growth in Interior British Columbia

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT The future climatic niche of interior Douglas‐fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca [Mirb.] Franco) is expected to have little spatial overlap with its current range due to climate change. The resulting misalignment of the climatic niche and species distribution is expected to result in many forests becoming maladapted in their current ...

Aspect-based sentiment classification with BERT and AI feedback

open access: yesNatural Language Processing Journal
Data augmentation has been widely employed in low-resource aspect-based sentiment classification (ABSC) tasks to alleviate the issue of data sparsity and enhance the performance of the model. Unlike previous data augmentation approaches that rely on back

Mechanistic basis for rescuing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with myosin regulatory light chain phosphorylation

open access: yesCytoskeleton, Volume 81, Issue 12, Page 806-814, December 2024.
Abstract We investigated the impact of the phosphomimetic (Ser15 → Asp15) myosin regulatory light chain (S15D‐RLC) on the Super‐Relaxed (SRX) state of myosin using previously characterized transgenic (Tg) S15D‐D166V rescue mice, comparing them to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Tg‐D166V model and wild‐type (WT) RLC mice. In the Tg‐D166V model, we

Bacterial chromatin proteins, transcription, and DNA topology: Inseparable partners in the control of gene expression

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 122, Issue 1, Page 81-112, July 2024.
In this review article, the diverse mechanisms by which bacterial chromatin proteins influence and are influenced by transcription and DNA supercoiling are discussed. Abstract DNA in bacterial chromosomes is organized into higher‐order structures by DNA‐binding proteins called nucleoid‐associated proteins (NAPs) or bacterial chromatin proteins (BCPs ...
