Infestation of Palm Trees by Triatomines (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) in the State of Bahia, Brazil

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2012
Palm trees play important roles as breeding and foraging habitats for sylvatic triatomines, vectors of Chagas disease. The occurrence of triatomines in peridomestic palm trees may increase the risk of invasion in households and should therefore be ...

Electrospun PVA Scaffolds Containing MCM‐41/CNC Nanocomposites for Controlled Drug Release in Wound Dressings

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Cellulose nanocrystals extracted from Mauritia flexuosa petiole were combined with MCM‐41 mesoporous silica to create a diclofenac‐loaded hybrid nanocomposite. Incorporation into electrospun PVA scaffolds enabled controlled diclofenac release and high cell viability, highlighting their potential for localized drug delivery.

Improved Cerrado Wetland Mapping Through Seasonal Moisture Metrics, Terrain Information and Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Brazil's Cerrado valley wetlands—swamp savanna and gallery forest—are highly important for the biome's water cycle and carbon storage and are susceptible to degradation from the impacts of land use expansion and the climate crisis. In support of their detailed monitoring and assessment, we developed and tested a transferable mapping approach that ...

Leaves of Mauritia flexuosa L. f. (Arecaceae) is effective in vitro and in vivo in the control of Haemonchus contortus

open access: yesResearch, Society and Development, 2021
In this study we evaluated the potential of Mauritia flexuosa leaves in the egg hatching and larval development inhibition and for reduction of egg count of this nematode in sheep feces. The leaves of this palm were collected and dehydrated for the production of aqueous and ethanolic extracts with and without tannins.

Drastic Biodiversity Transition as a Function of Rainfall Patterns: From Coastal Drylands to Amazonian Rainforests

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim By moving beyond traditional biome‐centric approaches to sample continuously across a massive ecotone, we investigate how species richness, community composition, and dominance of woody plants change across a strong longitudinal precipitation gradient and identify thresholds in water availability that drive shifts in community assembly ...
