Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18: A New Generation Radioprotector Protecting Human Erythrocytes Against Multiple Biochemical Damage Modes Upon Gamma Irradiation, Identifying It as a Scavenger of Short‐ and Long‐Lived Radicals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18 demonstrates strong radioprotective properties as a scavenger of both short‐ and long‐lived radicals. The study reveals protection of human erythrocytes from γ‐radiation–induced biochemical damage via post‐irradiation removal of primary and secondary reactive oxidants, supported by pulse radiolysis kinetics.

Bioengineered Lymphatic Vessels in Synthetic Matrices to Study Breast Cancer Cell Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Lymphatic vessels are involved in cancer metastasis. To study the interplay between metastasizing cancer cells and lymphatic vessels under highly reproducible conditions, advanced in vitro models are required. In this work, 3D lymphatic networks are formed in biomimetic hydrogels and their interactions with invasive and non‐invasive cancer cell‐lines ...

Strategies to Improve the Lipophilicity of Hydrophilic Macromolecular Drugs

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrophilic macromolecular drugs can be successfully lipidized by covalent attachment of lipids, by hydrophobic ion pairing with negatively or positively charged surfactants, and by dry or wet reverse micelle formation. Lipophilicity enhancement of hydrophilic macromolecules has several benefits including stability and bioavailability improvement ...

HUMAN PREADIPOCYTES INHIBIT PROLIFERATION OF MCF-7 BREAST CANCER CELL LINE [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2006
Cancer cell-stromal cell interaction plays a crucial role in the growth and invasion of tumor cells of various organs. It has been recently suggested that adipocytes and preadipocytes, two specific types of stromal cells, affect the biological behavior ...

Genetic variability in MCF-7 sublines: evidence of rapid genomic and RNA expression profile modifications

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2003
Background Both phenotypic and cytogenetic variability have been reported for clones of breast carcinoma cell lines but have not been comprehensively studied. Despite this, cell lines such as MCF-7 cells are extensively used as model systems.

In vivo "MRI phenotyping" reveals changes in extracellular matrix transport and vascularization that mediate VEGF-driven increase in breast cancer metastasis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
To gain new insights into the relationship between angiogenic factors in breast cancer and their effect on extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and metastasis, we characterized and validated the "metastatic signature" of human breast cancer cell lines ...

Intrinsically Disordered Protein‐Inspired Nanovector‐Based Coacervates for the Direct Cytosolic Transport of Biomacromolecules

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsically disordered protein‐inspired nanovectors (IDP‐NVs) form stable nanocoacervates (NCs) with diverse biomacromolecules. In situ conformational changes confer stability and adaptability to NCs under dynamically changing physiological conditions.

S1 kills MCF-7/ADR cells more than MCF-7 cells: A protective mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum stress

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 2013
Drug resistance in chemotherapy for breast cancer is associated with high levels of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) as well as endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. In this paper, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a pan-BH3 mimetic S1 on drug-resistant MCF-7/ADR cells, and the roles of S1-induced ER stress in cell death.
