Modeling Soil Penetration Resistance Using Regression, Artificial Neural Network and Gene Expression Programming [PDF]

open access: yesمجله آب و خاک
IntroductionThe penetration resistance (PR) of the soil shows the mechanical resistance of the soil against the penetration of a conical or flat probe; it is important in terms of seed germination, root growth and tillage operations.

A correlation linking the predicted mean vote and the mean thermal vote based on an investigation on the human thermal comfort in short-haul domestic flights [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The results of an experimental investigation on the human thermal comfort inside the cabin of some Airbus A319 aircrafts during 14 short-haul domestic flights, linking various Italian cities, are presented and used to define a correlation among the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Particle Transport in Self-Affine Rough Rock Fractures: A CFD–DEM Analysis of Multiscale Flow–Particle Interactions

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
Understanding particle transport in rough-walled fractures is essential for predicting flow behavior, clogging, and permeability evolution in natural and engineered subsurface systems.

The Fréchet mean.

open access: yes, 2016
Two trajectories P and Q are in red and blue, respectively. The segments linking P to Q after reparameterization are in black. The mean trajectory as defined by the middles of these segments is in violet.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
