Allelic Variation in Maize Malate Dehydrogenase 7 Shapes Promoter Methylation and Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.

An Opto‐Actuated Hydrogel for Cell Mechanoactuation and Real‐Time Force Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers developed a mechanoactuated hydrogel interface where nanomachines exert forces on adhesion receptors and allow monitoring of traction force responses in real time. They demonstrate reversible talin recruitment, enhanced F‐actin polymerization, and a reduction in cell traction force when force is locally applied to focal adhesions of ...

Olfactory‐to‐Entorhinal Network Dysrhythmias Drive Parkinson's Cognitive Impairment Through Frequency‐Specific Oscillatory Decoupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wang et al reveal that in the olfactory system, the selective impairment of gamma‐driven Barcode features underlying early olfactory deficits, while the selective impairment of theta‐driven Barcode features underlying later cognitive deficits, further establishing cross‐network gamma oscillations in the early stage as a biomarker of later cognitive ...

DualPG‐DTA: A Large Language Model‐Powered Graph Neural Network Framework for Enhanced Drug‐Target Affinity Prediction and Discovery of Novel CDK9 Inhibitors Exhibiting in Vivo Anti‐Leukemia Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces DualPG‐DTA, a framework integrating two pre‐trained models to generate molecular and protein representations. It constructs dual graphs processed by specialized neural networks with dynamic attention for feature fusion, achieving superior benchmark performance.

Growing meat on autoclaved vegetables with biomimetic stiffness and micro-patterns

open access: yesNature Communications
Cultured meat needs edible bio-scaffolds that provide not only a growth milieu for muscle and adipose cells, but also biomimetic stiffness and tissue-sculpting topography. Current meat-engineering technologies struggle to achieve scalable cell production,

Flexitarian foods: do plant-based meat analogs facilitate flexitarian diets?

open access: yes
This chapter takes as its starting points that both flexitarianism and plant-based meat analogs (PBMAs) could be considered relatively low-threshold options for transitioning into the direction of sustainable diets comprising more plant-based foods and less meat.

Early Detection of Cell Death Using Transmembrane Water Exchange Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cell death is important in both the development and treatment of cancer. In this study, it is demonstrated for the first time that a specific measurement of the transmembrane water exchange rate using magnetic resonance imaging can be used as an early marker of cell death in mammalian cells, in animals and in human patients. Abstract Cell death plays a
