Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

LncRSFD Alternative Splicing Modulates the Proliferation and Differentiation of Adipocytes Through Sponging miRNAs

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study identified a molecule named lncRSFD, which is highly expressed in sheep adipose tissues. The lncRSFD gene generates two distinct transcript variants via alternative splicing: lncRSFD‐L and lncRSFD‐S. Functionally, lncRSFD alternative splicing (lncRSFD‐L/S) promotes the proliferation, differentiation, and lipid metabolism of adipocytes ...

Association of bovine meat quality traits with genes included in the PPARG and PPARGC1A networks

open access: yes, 2013
Understanding which are the genetic variants underlying the nutritional and sensory properties of beef, enables improvement in meat quality. The aim of this study is to identify new molecular markers for meat quality through an association study using ...

Predicting beef carcass meat, fat and bone proportions from carcass conformation and fat scores or hindquarter dissection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
peer-reviewedEquations for predicting the meat, fat and bone proportions in beef carcasses using the European Union carcass classification scores for conformation and fatness, and hindquarter composition were developed and their accuracy was tested ...

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.

Genome-wide association study of meat quality traits in chicken

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2015
Meat quality traits are very important in the poultry industry. To identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and candidate genes affecting meat quality traits, a genome-wide association study was performed using the Illumina chicken 60K SNP beadchip in Jinghai yellow chicken. Four meat quality traits were measured.

Genetic Diversity, Adaptation, Wild Introgression, and Coat Color Mutation of Golden Yak

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Genetic diversity, adaptation, wild introgression, and coat color mutation of golden yak from two populations on the Qinghai‐Xizang Plateau. ABSTRACT The golden yak lives on the Qinghai‐Xizang Plateau with a golden coat and adapts to high altitudes and strong ultraviolet environment. The golden coat is a prominent phenotype in many domesticated species,

The Impact of MSTN Gene Editing on Meat Quality and Metabolomics: A Comparative Study Among Three Breeds of MSTN-Edited and Non-Edited Cattle

open access: yesAnimals
Myostatin (MSTN) serves as a negative regulatory factor for muscle development. A reduction in MSTN gene expression can enhance muscle mass and increase meat production.

Animal Efficiency in an Intensive Beef Production System [PDF]

open access: yes
A stochastic input distance function is estimated to analyse the efficiency with which physical characteristics of individual lot-fed beef cattle in Australia are combined with conventional inputs to produce a final product possessing defined quality ...
