Ultrasonic assessment of meat quality traits in pigs
Russian Agricultural Sciences, 2013Meat quality indicators were studied in Large White pigs using an ultrasound real-time AQUI-LAVET PRO system. A slide-format passport specifying the fat-deposition and muscle-development topography was provided for each animal selected for a replacement stock. The lean meat yield (57.8) was associated more with a section of longissimus dorsi (r = 0.85)

Carcass Traits and Meat Quality of Different Pig Genotype
2006The aim of our research was to compare the leanness and meat quality traits of the Croatian genotypes (CCB) with imported TOPIGS hybrids and to evaluate which genotype of pigs can be considered as more desirable regarding the carcass and meat quality traits.Research was performed on the pig carcasses of Croatian genotypes /(LWxSL)GL/ - CCB (n=20) and ...

Genetic Control of Meat Quality Traits
2008Meat was originally produced from non-specialized animals that were used for a variety of purposes, in addition to being a source of food. However, selective breeding has resulted in “improved” breeds of cattle that are now used to produce either milk or beef, and specialized chicken lines that produce eggs or meat.

Quality traits of organically produced meat
Medycyna Weterynaryjna, 2010<p>The principles of organic livestock production are included in the Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of June 2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products. Animals in this breeding system are fed organically produced feed, in accordance with the above mentioned regulation.

Genome scan for meat quality traits in Nelore beef cattle
Physiological Genomics, 2013Meat quality traits are economically important because they affect consumers' acceptance, which, in turn, influences the demand for beef. However, selection to improve meat quality is limited by the small numbers of animals on which meat tenderness can be evaluated due to the cost of performing shear force analysis and the resultant damage to the ...

Association of calpastatin gene polymorphisms and meat quality traits in pig
Meat Science, 2014Calpastatin is associated with the rate of post mortem degradation of structural proteins due to the regulation of calpain activity. In the present research, the associations between polymorphisms within 6th intron of porcine CAST gene and several meat quality traits were analyzed.

The genomic improvement of meat quality traits in pigs
2020Meat and carcass quality traits are of increasing interest to the swine industry due to their influence on customer purchasing and repurchasing decisions. However, meat quality traits must be measured post-mortem, meaning that these traits cannot be measured on the potential breeding candidates themselves, instead they must be measured on their ...

Genetic effect of Myf5 gene in rabbit meat quality traits
Journal of Genetics, 2017The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the polymorphism in the Myf5 gene on meat quality traits in the Ira and Tianfu Black rabbit breeds using polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing. A total of six SNPs and four haplotypes were found in Ira rabbits and only two SNPs were found in Tianfu Black rabbits.

Carcass and meat quality traits of four different pig crosses
Meat Science, 2012The study compared properties of Finnish Landrace×Yorkshire crossbred sows mated with Finnish Landrace (FL), Norwegian Landrace (NL), Norwegian Duroc×Norwegian Landrace (NDL), or Swedish Hampshire (SH) boars. The focus was to study the cross-sectional area of loin, cross-sectional area and number of muscle fibres, loin colour and pH value as well as ...

Meat quality traits as a function of cow maturity.
Animal science journal = Nihon chikusan Gakkaiho, 2017To investigate the physico-chemical and sensory properties of striploin muscles, 90 Hanwoo carcasses (QG 1+ ) were randomly selected within six maturity levels (4 to 9 according to age in months). Results demonstrated that the protein contents at maturity levels 4 and 5 were significantly higher than 9.
