Isolating factors for the prediction of rebound after guided growth with tension band plating for the valgus deformity of the knee

open access: yesJournal of Children's Orthopaedics, 2023
Purpose: The conditions leading to growth rebound after hemiepiphysiodesis are still poorly understood. This article analyzes the radiographical outcomes after guided growth with tension band plating, using plates in idiopathic genu valgum patients and ...

A Geometric Theory of Growth Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nonlinear Science, 2010
In this paper we formulate a geometric theory of the mechanics of growing solids. Bulk growth is modeled by a material manifold with an evolving metric. Time dependence of metric represents the evolution of the stress-free (natural) configuration of the body in response to changes in mass density and "shape".

Platonic Relationships in Metal Phosphonate Chemistry: Ionic Metal Phosphonates

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
Phosphonate ligands demonstrate strong affinity for metal ions. However, there are several cases where the phosphonate is found non-coordinated to the metal ion.

Mechanical Stress Induces Remodeling of Vascular Networks in Growing Leaves. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2016
Differentiation into well-defined patterns and tissue growth are recognized as key processes in organismal development. However, it is unclear whether patterns are passively, homogeneously dilated by growth or whether they remodel during tissue expansion.

Scaffold Geometry-Imposed Anisotropic Mechanical Loading Guides the Evolution of the Mechanical State of Engineered Cardiovascular Tissues in vitro

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Cardiovascular tissue engineering is a promising approach to develop grafts that, in contrast to current replacement grafts, have the capacity to grow and remodel like native tissues.

No matter how much space and light are available, radial growth distribution in Fagus sylvatica L. trees is under strong biomechanical control

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Science, 2022
Key message This study presents the first attempt to quantify how the thigmomorphogenetic syndrome is involved in Fagus sylvatica L. tree growth responses to thinning.

On the Mechanics of Firm Growth

open access: yesThe Review of Economic Studies, 2008
Given a common technology for replicating blueprints, high-quality blueprints will be replicated more quickly than low-quality blueprints. If quality begets quality, and firms are identified with collections of blueprints derived from the same initial blueprint, then, along a balanced growth path, Gibrat's Law holds for every type of firm.

Quantum mechanics of Plancherel growth

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2021
Growth of Young diagrams, equipped with Plancherel measure, follows the automodel equation of Kerov. Using the technology of unitary matrix model we show that such growth process is exactly same as the growth of gap-less phase in Gross-Witten and Wadia (GWW) model. The limit shape of asymptotic Young diagrams corresponds to GWW transition point.

Rational Use of Herbal Products in Pediatric Patients Treated With Anticancer Drugs in the European Union

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The use of herbal medical preparation (HMP) is rising among pediatric oncology patients, often to manage treatment‐related symptoms. Their effectiveness remains uncertain, and the risk of herb–drug interactions is underestimated.
