Immunohistochemical expression of heat shock proteins in the mouse periodontal tissues due to orthodontic mechanical stress*

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research, 2010
The histopathology of periodontal ligament of the mouse subjected to mechanical stress was studied. Immunohistochemical expressions of HSP27 and pHSP27 were examined.

Rolling to control residual stress and distortion in friction stir welds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Considerable residual stress and distortion can be produced by friction stir welding, impeding industrial implementation. Finite element analysis has been used to develop three innovative rolling methods that reduce residual stress and distortion in ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The effect of mechanical stress on the stiffness of articular cartilage and its role in the aetiology of osteoarthrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Although a substantial amount is known about the pathogenesis of osteoarthrosis, its aetiology and in particular the role that mechanical factors play, remains unclear.

Stress relaxation and elastic follow-up using a stress range-dependent constitutive model

open access: yes, 2012
Despite the availability of detailed nonlinear finite element analysis, some aspects of high temperature design can still be best addressed through more simplified methods.

Self-induced mechanical stress can trigger biofilm formation in uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Bacterial biofilms represent an important medical problem; however, the mechanisms of the onset of biofilm formation are poorly understood. Here, using new controlled methods allowing high-throughput and reproducible biofilm growth, we show that biofilm ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
